It also connects with Jeffrey Fontana Park, a well-maintained community park with a playground and dog park. They can start at Los Alamitos Elementary, which gets an A-minus rating from Niche, followed by B-plus-rated Castillero Middle. The last four years are spent at Pioneer High School, an A-minus-rated school that is a four-time winner of the prestigious California Distinguished Schools Award. Guadalupe Oak Ranch is in a car-centric area of the city, although there is a bus line that runs nearby. It’s several miles from the nearest expressway and even further from major highways. State Routes 85 and 17 are both within about 5 miles and takes passengers up to central San Jose and over the mountains to Santa Cruz. Almaden Plaza is less than a mile away from the neighborhood. It’s one of Almaden Valley’s largest and busiest shopping destinations, with a multitude of big box and chain grocery stores. Whole Foods, Costco, Trader Joe’s and Peet’s Coffee are all available there. Also close by is Old Almaden Plaza, a small strip of mom-and-pop shops and local restaurants. Mr. Mojito Bar & Grill is a longstanding Mexican eatery serving up Latin American classics in a festive atmosphere. There’s also Legends Pizza Co. for takeout.
