Hathaway is a commuter-friendly community close to shopping
Hathaway offers a convenient location in west San Jose, close to shopping centers along Saratoga Avenue, without sacrificing suburban character. It's popular for families with younger children — there's a neighborhood park close by, sidewalks make it easy to walk around and kids can go to top-rated schools. Commuters have easy access to major tech employers like Apple, along with highways like Interstate 280.

Prices of midcentury homes on uniform lots
One-story ranch-style homes from the 1950s and ‘60s make up most of the neighborhood, with some two-story properties sprinkled throughout. Lots are typically compact and uniform with flat grassy front lawns and manicured shrubbery. Prices vary widely, based on size and recent renovations. Most homes sell for between $1.3 million and $2.3 million. Larger builds with over 1,600 square feet can sell for up to $2.8 million. Though commuters still have good access to employment centers and major tech companies, the housing market in Hathaway isn’t as competitive as other areas in Silicon Valley. “There’s more demand close to the San Francisco area, especially around Palo Alto,” says Sylvia Pollifrone, a local Realtor at Keller Williams Bay Area Estates with over 45 years of experience. “Farther south, it gets more suburban.”

Nearby highways include Interstate 280 and Lawrence Expressway. A strong network of sidewalks makes the immediate area very walkable, and there are designated bike lanes along Hamilton and Campbell avenues.
