Within one of the most accessible areas of East San Jose, Hidden Glen’s location is its biggest advantage. This neighborhood sits right in the middle of sprawling suburban landscape with views of the Sierra Nevada mountains in the distance. The well-maintained residential streets keep homeowners connected to some of the area’s biggest attractions. “It’s an extremely convenient place to live,” says local librarian Beth Anders. “Not only are the streets and houses really nice, but you’ve got the mall on one side and the lake on another. The mountains aren’t far either, and you can see them if you walk in that direction.” Accents of Italian cypress trees, palms and Spanish architecture backdropped by mountains decorate this Mediterranean-inspired California suburb. Aside from residential streets, the over 200-acre Lake Cunningham Park rests at the top of the neighborhood’s map, with smaller parks, shopping centers, places of worship and schools in between.

Hidden Glen architecture is constructed to combat heat
Hidden Glen’s wide-open streets are lined with Spanish-mission inspired ranch-style homes and split-levels. Houses tend to feature white or cream stucco facades and pops of colorful detailing that contrast with red tile roofs. Built-in garages and driveways are common, along with additional amenities, like backyard pools. Well-kept green lawns often set the homes back from the streets.
Most properties sell in the $1 million range, but mobile homes and two-to-three-bedroom condos can sell from $300,000 to $800,000. Sidewalks wrap around the neighborhood and invite residents to get around by foot. Most streets lead into cul-de-sacs, which gives Hidden Glen a sense of seclusion from the rest of town.

One park for skateboarding, water slides and campgrounds
Hidden Glen has a wealth of outdoor activities. Across Tully Road is Lake Cunningham Regional Park, an open space that offers something for everyone: a playground, expansive paths that wrap around the lake and the seasonal Calibunga Waterpark. Lake Cunningham Action Sports Park is the largest skate park in California, complete with a pro shop and lessons for beginners. The park also holds events, such as camps, sports tournaments, concerts and holiday festivities. On the other end of the neighborhood sits Aborn Park, a smaller spot with a playground, picnic tables and a grassy area.

Two school districts serve Hidden Glen
Hidden Glen students are zoned for Evergreen Elementary School District and East Side Union High School District. Children can begin their education at Holly Oak Elementary, which rates a B on Niche. Students can then head to one of the highest-rated middle schools in the district, Quimby Oak, which scores an A-minus. High schoolers can attend Silver Creek, which rates an A-minus and offers student-led clubs and events, such as Creekchella, where groups perform for their peers in a Coachella-inspired festival. Silver Creek offers Advanced Placement courses and numerous athletic programs, including water polo, basketball, badminton and golf.

Navigating Hidden Glen and San Jose
Hidden Glen is located about 4 miles from major San Jose thoroughfares, Interstate 680 and the 101. “I love living here because it’s really hard to beat the access,” Anders says. “You have so much to do and a pleasant little neighborhood to live in at the same time. Of the places I’ve lived around the city, this is my favorite.” Public transit is available via the Valley Transportation Authority, though most people get around by car. Over 40 direct flights take off from San Jose Mineta International Airport, about 12 miles away. Residents also have access to the Regional Medical Center within about 5 miles.

Restaurants, authentic markets and the Eastridge Mall
