Hidden Glen South
Midcentury style homes with views of the meadowy hillsides
Homes in Hidden Glen South were largely built in the late 1960s and ‘70s. Ranch styles, split levels and Traditional homes are the most common home designs here. The streets are quiet, free of through-traffic and lined with leafy trees that burst with color in the springtime. Some homes back up to the hillsides, offering spectacular views of nature. “Some people’s backyards open right up to the hillsides,” Heckenberg says. Single-family home prices range from $1.5 million to $1.8 million. “You get a little more house for your budget, a little more bang for your buck, compared to places north of here,” Heckenberg says. Safety is also part of the appeal — the neighborhood gets a CAP Index crime score of 1 out of 10, compared to 4 nationally.Foothill Park has gorgeous views of the city suburbs and distant mountains
Foothill Park sits at the edge of the neighborhood, blending in with its hilly surroundings. It has a path that winds up the hillside to a picnic table with a 360-degree view of South San Jose. Almaden Lake Park is about a mile east. Its blue waters are surrounded by walking paths, benches and picnic areas. Also nearby is the Boulder Ridge Golf Club, a private golf course and wedding venue with stunning views of the Santa Cruz Mountains. The neighborhood’s proximity to the countryside also makes it more susceptible to the impacts of wildfires, although recent fires have largely been contained to nearby rural areas.Students attend well-rated public schools
Students living in the western side of the neighborhood start at Allen At Steinbeck Elementary School, which gets a C-plus rating from Niche. The next steps are B-plus-rated Castillero Middle School and B-rated Gunderson High School. Gunderson High also has a well-rounded Career Technical Education program for students who want to learn a trade that contributes to their high school credits. Students living in the east side of the neighborhood attend Sakamoto Elementary School, which earns a B-plus. They then move on to B-plus-rated Leonard Herman Intermediate School and A-rated Santa Teresa High School. Discovery Charter School’s Falcon Campus is located at the center of Hidden Glen South. It’s a K-8 public charter school with an A-minus rating from Niche, and one of the top-rated charter schools in the Bay Area.Blossom Hill Drive has plenty of shops, restaurants and big box stores
The nearest shopping and dining destinations are about 2 miles away on Blossom Hill Drive. There, residents can grab groceries at Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s and Costco, or peruse the apparel shops of Westfield Oakridge indoor shopping mall. The mall has a movie theater, a Target and an array of restaurants to choose from. Chain establishments are the most common eateries here, but there are some local standouts like Chaat Café for Indian cuisine and Sweet Retreat ice cream shop.Getting around San Jose via the 85
