Located in southwest San Jose, Kooser is a small residential community near the Santa Cruz foothills. Homebuyers are often drawn to the area's suburban atmosphere, highly rated schools and convenient access to major commuting routes, like state Route 85 and Almaden Expressway. People live close to a variety of neighborhood parks and natural spaces, as well as popular retail and restaurant corridors. The neighborhood mostly has single-family homes from the late 1950s to the 1990s. Most have New Traditional and ranch-style architecture, although stately Spanish Revivals are also around. While main roads can occasionally increase noise and congestion in the area, the neighborhood has a much calmer atmosphere than Downtown San Jose, 9 miles away. "It's a little far from downtown, but some people prefer it that way," says Ryan Anderson, local librarian at the San Jose Public Library. "There are a lot of people who commute to the city and deal with all the hustle and bustle all day, but they get to come home to something more peaceful."

People can also find many grocery stores, major retailers and regional malls along state Route 85 and Almaden Expressway.
