Los Paseos
Classic Californian homes with abundant gardens
Properties in Los Paseos typically take the form of ranch-style homes or snout houses with protruding garages. Their Spanish Revival flourishes, like stucco siding and red tile roofing, feel classically Californian. Others offer a midcentury modern feel, featuring elements of post and beam architecture. These single-family homes range in price from $950,000 to nearly $2 million, lining residential streets adorned with weeping willows, Mediterranean cypresses, palm and pine trees. The neighborhood’s mobile homes are part of the Monterey Oaks community, where properties range from $200,000 to $400,000. Down the street, townhomes in the California Maison community hover in the $700,000s range. Altogether, homebuyers can expect clean streets straddled by sidewalks, abundant gardens and ample driveway space.Shopping centers on Bernal Road
Santa Teresa Village and Bernal Plaza rest on either side of Bernal Road, two shopping centers with grocery and retail options less than a mile from residences. The former offers a Grocery Outlet across the way from Flames Coffee Shop, the nearest greasy spoon serving a full breakfast and brunch menu. The latter has Lucky Supermarket, which neighbors El Burrito Loco Taco Truck for a quick fix of Carne El Pastor. Locals head north on Monterey Road into Village Oaks for options like Safeway, Target, Costco and, of course, the Santa Teresa Farmer’s Market. Meanwhile, diverse restaurants in the area serve everything from Vietnamese pho to Indian and Mexican. Pour Decisions Craft Coffee & Beer, in particular, has strong roots in the community thanks to its culturally diverse ownership.12 miles from downtown San Jose
Residents of Los Paseos are just 12 miles from San Jose’s downtown scene. Event venues like the San Jose Civic commonly host comedians, talk shows and book tours, while the Center for Performing Arts features off-Broadway shows. Visitors can peruse the San Jose Museum of Art on the weekend, or check out Santana Row, an elevated commercial district hosting events like Makers Market in the Park and a summer farmer’s market. Closer to home, the annual Water Lantern Festival is held at Almaden Lake, and Martial Cottle Park hosts a Harvest Festival in the fall with live music, agricultural exhibitions and a pumpkin patch.Walkable schools in the Morgan Hill District
Los Paseos narrowly misses the cut-off for San Jose’s schools, meaning students are zoned for the Morgan Hill Unified School District instead. The neighborhood’s titular elementary school provides a state-standard curriculum, while Martin Murphy Middle School—located right next door—boasts technology-infused classrooms to prepare the next generation of Silicon Valley’s tech leaders. Both schools earn a grade of B on Niche. A short commute down Santa Teresa Boulevard brings students to Ann Sobrato High School. Niche gives Sobrato High an overall grade of A-minus while ranking it in the top 20 percent of public high schools in the state.Immersing in nature on the Coyote Creek Trail
Opportunities for outdoor recreation are closest at Los Paseos Park, an 11-acre green space neighboring Santa Teresa Village with lighted tennis courts, a playground and plenty of open space for pick-up games. A more immersive experience is had on Coyote Creek Trail, accessible from Metcalf Park on Forsum Road. This portion of the trail’s southern reach extends 16.8 miles south along Coyote Creek to Anderson Lake. The park itself offers ball courts, designated picnic areas and a playground for little ones. The largest, however, is Santa Teresa County Park with 1,673 acres. Guests can hike, bike and ride horses on 17 miles of unpaved trails or check out the archery range down below. The park is also home to the Santa Teresa Golf Club, where members can enjoy lessons and tournaments.Navigating San Jose and Coyote Valley
State Route 87 takes commuters 12 miles into San Jose, while San Jose Mineta International Airport remains an additional 3 miles north. Residents are granted the sound barrier of Coyote Creek to block out noise from Highway 101 to the east, a thoroughfare that many rely on to reach nearby hubs like Coyote and Morgan Hill. Residents will find bus stops along Santa Teresa Boulevard and San Ignacio Avenue, as well as the Santa Teresa light rail station right in town. Those who prefer biking can stay safe in the bike lanes on surrounding thoroughfares, though residential streets rarely offer them. In addition, the closest emergency room, Good Samaritan Hospital, is about 11 miles west on State Route 85.
