Cape Cods, ranch-style homes and split-levels make up Morrill’s housing scene, and most have small fenced-in backyards within a few feet of their next-door neighbors. Pho Mai #1 is a late-night spot serving Vietnamese dishes from pho to banh mi. “We have a diverse population in San Jose and a lot of authentic Vietnamese restaurants,” George says. “We have a large Vietnamese population, and pho is one of the most popular dishes in the area.” The Skewer Bar offers authentic Chinese cuisine, while Valerio’s Tropical Bake Shop serves baked goods, tea and coffee. Across the street, locals can pick up their groceries at the Seafood City supermarket or have a curry dish from Mr. Biryani. Great Mall is a short drive west and has more than 200 outlet and value retail stores. Downtown San Jose is around 10 miles southwest and has a wide variety of local businesses, including Vietnamese restaurants and markets.

A short walk south of Morrill, Berryessa Creek Park has picnic tables, a large playground and a softball field. The 17-acre Cataldi Park is a popular spot among walkers and tennis players, with walking trails, sports facilities, open field space and a splash pad. “The East Foothills are just east of the community and are full of parks and hiking areas,” George says. This includes the nearby Sierra Vista Open Space Preserve with miles of hiking and biking trails that wind over 6 miles through rolling grasslands that serve as habitats for golden eagles, mountain lions and gray foxes.

Easy commutes to major engineering industry employers
Interstate 680 lies just west of the neighborhood and spans around 15 miles north to Fremont and 10 miles south to Downtown San Jose. “You have several public transportation options in the area," George says. “A large percentage of our population works in the engineering industry, with major employers nearby on the northside of town.” The light rail system runs nearby and can be accessed from Capitol Avenue and connects riders to Oakland and San Francisco. The Valley Transportation Authority also operates the area’s bus routes, with nearby stops along Landess Avenue.
Interstate 680 runs just west of Morrill, connecting to Fremont and Downtown San Jose.
Morrill residents connect to BART and VTA rail lines at nearby Milpitas Transit Center.
