Santana Row sits adjacent to one of San Jose’s biggest tourist attractions: the Winchester Mystery House. Sarah Winchester – the widow of William Winchester of Winchester Rifles – purchased the 45-acre property in the late 1880s and built ornate Victorian and Gothic-style additions to the mansion until she died in 1922. Winchester’s continuous building resulted in a massive maze-like layout with bizarre features like stairs that end in a ceiling, doors that lead to nowhere and randomly placed trapdoors. “The Winchester Mystery House is definitely something to check out – it’s rumored to be haunted, and so Sarah Winchester building onto the house to keep ghosts at bay,” Hansen says.Residents can find year-round events and celebrations at Santana Row Park, like Yoga on The Row every Saturday morning and the Sips & Sounds of Summer Music Series, a free outdoor concert series hosted every Tuesday evening in August and September. In the weeks leading up to Christmas, locals can get into the holiday spirit by celebrating Spirit of The Row each Tuesday in December.
