Strawberry fields forever?
Though Strawberry Park is now at the heart of the tech industry, its name references San Jose's fruitful past as a hub for the canning industry. "People used to pick a lot of strawberries in that area,” says Wayne Haraguchi, a San Jose native and Realtor for Intero Real Estate Services, Inc. “Actually, my father, mother and grandmother picked strawberries there. Santa Clara County used to have about 20 fruit canneries." Located 7 miles from downtown San Jose, Strawberry Park is now a quiet, residential neighborhood containing highly rated schools and houses of worship like the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and the Korean Baptist Church of San Jose. Strawberry Park borders Cupertino and is less than 3 miles from Apple’s corporate campus and the Apple Park Visitor Center. The neighborhood’s overall CAP Index crime score is 2 out of 10, lower than the national average of 4.
