Santa Ana Triangle
Historic homes in Santa Ana Triangle
As denoted by the name, Santa Ana Triangle is a triangle-shaped neighborhood, only three blocks wide at the bottom and one block wide at the top. The western and southern edges are mostly businesses, while the residential parts are the central and eastern parts of the neighborhood. The residential areas have many apartment buildings and a selection of homes from the early 20th century. “My buyers moved there because it’s a historic house. It was from the family that built the first brick building in Santa Ana at the beginning of the 1900s,” says Realtor Simona Battaglia who works with Coldwell Banker Realty and has nearly a decade of experience in the area. Many of these houses have curb appeal, with well-maintained exteriors and landscaped lawns, some with palm trees. This is because of the Mills Act, which gives tax credits to owners of historic homes who agree to maintain their property per the preservation standards. The architecture includes Mediterranean homes, Craftsman bungalows and Victorian homes. Craftsman bungalows range from $850,000 to $1 million, while Victorian homes range from $750,000 to $950,000. “The house was a million dollars, so it wasn’t affordable, but there are more expensive parts of Santa Ana,” Battaglia says. One of these is Floral Park, the neighborhood next door, where a Craftsman home can go up to $1.5 million. The Bowers Museum and the Discovery Cube
Located on Main Street, the Bowers Museum is right next door to Santa Ana Triangle, ideal for art lovers who want to see exhibits often. The Mission Revival building offers a permanent collection as well as changing exhibits, including Asian Comics and Gemstone Carvings. The museum also has frequent events like bonsai displays, book clubs and art projects. Half a mile north of the neighborhood, the Discovery Cube is a nearby children’s museum. It features interactive exhibits about dinosaurs, recycling and healthy eating.Retail and restaurants on 17th Street
The area’s high walkability makes it convenient to go to many stores and restaurants along 17th Street. At NORMS Restaurant, a Southern California diner chain, patrons can order breakfasts in a vintage-style interior of cushy booths and barstools. Yum Yum Donuts has a wide variety of donut flavors and other baked goods in a takeout only shop. The thoroughfare also has a Big Saver Foods for groceries half a mile west of the neighborhood. For more retail, historic downtown Santa Ana is only a mile away, and the MainPlace Mall is only a mile north.Santa Ana Unified public schools
El Sol Santa Ana Science and Arts Academy serves kindergarten through eighth grade and has a B-plus rating on Niche. Santa Ana High School has a B-minus grade and offers extracurriculars like Garden Club and Polynesian Dance. It features notable alumni, including the actress Diane Keaton and Olympic diver Greg Louganis. A charter school option, Orange County School of the Arts has an A-plus grade and serves seventh through twelfth grade. It has specialized programs for theater, dance, fine arts and music.Outdoor recreation in Fisher and Santiago parks
Fisher Park is a mile northwest of Santa Ana Triangle. It was named after WWI hero Jack Fisher, who was a Santa Ana resident. The park features a log cabin often reserved for cookouts and parties. For the kids, there’s a large playground and a cannon replica that they can climb on. Benches and picnic tables are scattered throughout, ideal for snacks in the shade. The Fisher Park Neighborhood Association hosts regular events at the park, including crop exchanges, where neighbors trade vegetables and fruits from their gardens. The association also puts on summer movie nights. At Santiago Park, people can practice their aim at the archery range. There are also areas for lawn bowling, baseball and tennis. The park is ideal for walking and biking because it connects to the 10-mile Santiago Creek Trail that extends into Orange.Only a mile from downtown Santa Ana
Santa Ana Triangle is adjacent to the Interstate 5 freeway, giving residents easy access to the rest of Orange County and Los Angeles. The neighborhood is only a mile north of downtown Santa Ana, which makes for walkable commutes or short bus rides. There are a few Orange County Transportation Authority bus stops on Main Street and 17th Street. For a nearby medical center, residents can go to Kindred Hospital Santa Ana, located 2 miles west of the neighborhood. The closest major airport is John Wayne Airport, 10 miles south of Santa Ana Triangle.
