Westside
Well-maintained bungalows from the early to mid-20th century
Homes are packed tightly along streets and well-maintained sidewalks, shaded by tall palm and eucalyptus trees and dense shrubbery. Most homes here are one-story ranch-style properties and bungalows built between the 1920s and ‘50s, sometimes incorporating Spanish Revival-inspired details like barrel-tile roofs. Prices start around $1 million for a 1920s-era bungalow with two bedrooms and minimally designed exteriors, while multi-story Spanish Revival-style homes with three bedrooms can sell for close to $2 million. “People look here for entry-level homes because you don’t have to pay a premium price to get into the neighborhood,” says Ali Evans, a Realtor with Berkshire Hathaway Home Services California. “Homeowners have done a great job restoring properties.” A few condo complexes are located on the north side, close to the highway and track tracks, where two-bedroom units start at around $900,000. With it being a more densely populated area, locals can often be seen walking beneath the tree canopy to nearby institutions and businesses, from the Calvary Baptist Church of Santa Barbara to La Bella Rosa Bakery.Local Mexican restaurants and bakeries in walking distance
For family-owned shops and dining options, locals can stroll down San Andreas Street, stopping at La Bella Rosa Bakery Café for tamales or Mexican Sweet Bread or visiting Revolver Pizza, a community staple. Residents have plenty of options for Mexican food, including Super Cucas, home to the best burritos in Santa Barbara according to some. For groceries, Foodland Market offers Mexican specialties in addition to fresh produce and other essentials. In the evenings, locals can visit the Tully, a local bar, for a pool game or karaoke on Wednesdays.Festivals and celebrations a few miles away in West Beach
Westside is a little over 2 miles from West Beach, where most of the city’s festivals and events are held throughout the year. In the summer, locals can enjoy live music all day long leading up to the Fourth of July fireworks show. Every October, the Harbor & Seafood Festival celebrates the beginning of lobster season with informational booths with local environmental organizations and many vendors serving seafood dishes, from fish tacos to barbecued albacore.Santa Barbara District schools with career-oriented academies
Westside is zoned for the Santa Barbara Unified School District, where students attend Adams Elementary, rated A-minus by Niche, or the B-plus-rated La Cumbre Junior High. Students at the A-rated San Marcos Senior High can enroll in the San Marcos Health Careers Academy, which allows students to complete hands-on instructional activities and internships in partnership with Cottage Health Systems and Santa Barbara City College.Nearby hiking trails and disc golf at Elings Park
The 230-acre Elings Park sits next to the neighborhood in the southwest corner, featuring hiking and biking trails, a disc golf course and an unleashed dog park. Within the community, Bohnett Park is a neighborhood pocket park with basketball courts adorned with murals, a small playground for kids of any age and picnic areas. For those looking to spend a day out on the water, Westside is just three miles away from the sandy shores and crystal blue waters of Leadbetter Beach.Pedestrian walkways and local bus routes
The northern border of the Westside is lined by U.S. Route 101 and a parallel set of train tracks. Though most of the area is unaffected, passing trains and other noises can be heard from residences closest to that edge. The Santa Barbara Metropolitan Transit District has a bus system with several routes that make stops nearby. Route 1 passes through the Westside along San Andres Street before heading downtown, connecting to Route 2 and ending on Santa Barbara’s Eastside. For regional transportation, the Santa Barbara Airport is about 9 miles away. Nearby hospitals include Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, about a mile north.
