A friendly, seaside community in East Santa Cruz
Lower Seabright is where residents wake up to the sounds of yachts and sailboats clanging in the harbor, the whoosh of ocean waves and coastal birds chirping overhead. Mornings might be spent meandering along palm tree-lined streets and wide, sandy beaches overlooking Monterey Bay. The neighborhood is situated along the coast between the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk and Santa Cruz Harbor. "It’s the pinnacle of East Side Santa Cruz,” says Celeste Faraola, owner of Schooner Realty and a lifelong Seabright resident. “Everybody knows each other. It doesn’t matter if you live there full-time or live there for one month out of the year. It’s very friendly.”

Sailing, swimming and regattas on Monterey Bay
Seabright State Beach is a neighborhood beach where locals can be seen laying out in the sun, splashing in the chilly Pacific surf or watching white sails drift out to sea from the harbor. “It’s less touristy than the boardwalk beach, but it can get pretty crowded in the summer,” Faraola says. Sailboat races take place along the beach every Wednesday evening in the summertime. The Walton Lighthouse is also accessible from a walking path that extends out onto a boulder-strewn jetty. The 41-foot tower was built in 1964 and still serves as a beacon for those sailing during misty evenings. Also on the beachfront is the Santa Cruz Museum of Natural History, where locals and visitors take in revolving exhibits and a permanent collection of area artifacts.
The Santa Cruz Small Craft Marina and Santa Cruz Yacht Club border the eastern edge of Lower Seabright, offering residents a scenic place to dock their boats. The yacht club was founded in the 1920s and still hosts regattas throughout the spring, summer and fall. The Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk is right next door to Lower Seabright; it's brightly lit rides, games and attractions are accessible via the pedestrian bridge at the western edge of the neighborhood.
