Highway-bound community of hillside estates near Downtown Santa Fe
Only 5 miles south of Downtown Santa Fe, the Old Las Vegas Corridor runs along the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, its hillside estates and ranches surrounded by arroyos and juniper-piñon woodlands. “It’s like you’re living in the country with the big lots and the nature, but you’re only 5 to 10 minutes from downtown,” says Liza Cale, an Associate Broker with Santa Fe Properties with 20 years of experience selling homes in the city. The namesake Old Las Vegas Highway is bounded by the Arroyo Hondo Open Space to the west and the Santa Fe National Forest to the east, and the area's eateries and recreation centers lend it a strong sense of community. “Clients of mine tell me how their neighbors watch their houses while they're gone because you really do get a neighborly feel here,” says Jody Lusk, a Santa Fe local and Associate Broker with Barker Realty. The Old Las Vegas Corridor also parallels Interstate 25, and it scores an overall 1 out of 10 on the CAP Crime Index, lower than the national average of 4.
Custom-built Santa Fe mansions and Northern New Mexico Ranches
Homes in the Old Las Vegas Corridor sit on secluded dirt roads that weave through juniper-piñon woodlands and the Sangre de Cristo foothills. Most are custom-built Santa Fe-style homes from the 1970s to 2000s; common features include tan stucco exteriors, colorful wood molding and pitched, parapeted roofs. A majority sit on 2 to 5 acres of woodlands and mountain ridges, ranging from $575,000 to $1 million, depending on lot size; however, hilltop Santa Fe-style mansions range from $1.7 million for three-bedroom homes to $2.2 million for five-bedroom homes. Northern New Mexico-style homes are scattered throughout the area, most at lower elevation on flat, high desert acreage. These homes feature pitched metal roofs and bright stucco exteriors, often with additional casitas (small guesthouses) or horse stables on their five-acre lots; prices range from $625,000 for one-bedroom homes to $1 million for three-bedroom properties with casitas. Lots are also available for development, ranging from $90,000 for 1 acre closer to Old Las Vegas Highway to $480,000 for 10 acres set higher in the Sangre de Cristos.
Santa Fe Style homes with lots of room to roam are the highlight of Old Las Vegas Corridor.

Nearby public and charter schools
Local kids can attend Santa Fe Public Schools, including Atalaya Elementary, which earns a B-plus from Niche, and Milagro Middle, which receives a C-minus. At A-minus-rated Santa Fe High, they can enroll in engineering and culinary arts programs or volunteer for the school newspaper, “The Demon Tattler.” Kindergarten through Grade 8 students can also attend the charter Thrive Community School, which offers an after-school Boys and Girls Club.
Biking routes, fitness centers and natural spaces abound
The Old Las Vegas Highway often attracts cyclists with its views of the Jemez Mountains and sense of history. “This used to be part of the Old Santa Fe Trail, where the waggoners would come through to the city, so bikers are still drawn to it and ride there every day,” Cale says. The members-only El Gancho Fitness, Swim and Racquet Club sits on Old Las Vegas Highway, its nine tennis courts, two swimming pools, gym room and spa making it a popular spot among locals. Natural spaces also surround the Old Las Vegas Corridor. Immediately west of Interstate 25, the 86-acre Arroyo Hondo is a marshy canyon, its 3 miles of trails weaving between juniper-piñon woodlands and rock formations. Immediately east, the Santa Fe National Forest stretches 1.5 million acres across the Sangre de Cristo Mountains; the Sun and Moon Mountains sit about 3 miles north, their summits overlooking Santa Fe’s lights and pueblos.

Local spots along Old Las Vegas Highway
Roadside businesses dot Old Las Vegas Highway, many attracting Santa Fe locals with their seclusion from the city’s tourist scene. “Harry’s Roadhouse is the sort of place everyone from here goes, even if it’s off the beaten path,” explains Kayla Ortiz, owner of the local jewelry store Mineralbound Silver. “It’s your classic American diner, but they have so many delicious pies that my friends and I couldn’t try them all even though there were over six of us.” Next to Harry's, the Bourbon Grill at El Gancho mixes steakhouse fair with New Mexican flavors with meals like green chile burgers or peppered sirloin and fire-roasted corn. “Jambo Bobcat Bite is also a super popular, upscale burger joint, and Cafe Fina has great, healthy breakfast food,” says Gary Bobolsky, a local Power Broker with Sotheby’s International Realty. Additional shopping options can be found in Downtown Santa Fe 5 miles north, including the century-old Kaune’s Neighborhood Market for groceries.
Immediate interstate and highway access
The Old Las Vegas Highway runs along the neighborhood's western border and merges into Old Pecos Road on its way to Santa Fe Plaza 5 miles north; Interstate 25 also runs parallel to the Old Las Vegas Highway. The CHRISTUS Saint Vincent Regional Medical Center is 3 miles north, and the Santa Fe Regional Airport is 13 miles west.
Santa Fe Century Ride
The Santa Fe Century Ride brings hundreds of cyclists to the Old Las Vegas Corridor every May. This 107-mile route takes bike riders from the Santa Fe Railyard, south toward Edgewood and back north again on the Las Vegas Highway. Cafe Fina here opens its doors to cyclists as the course’s last food stop, fueling riders before they complete the Century Ride’s final stretch.
