Los Nietos
Ranch-style homes and townhouses in Los Nietos
Los Nietos has large industrial complexes on its east side, which can create noise or traffic for those who live nearby. The area's residential streets are semiwalkable and have single-family houses. Many homes in Los Nietos have driveways and attached garages, but there's also plenty of street parking. The lots are compact, with a median size of a tenth of an acre. This doesn't leave much room for large yards, although some homes in the area do have enough backyard space for a pool. Landscaping often features palm trees and rose bushes in the garden beds. Built in the mid-20th century, much of the architecture includes ranch-style homes. However, the layouts of these homes can vary. “It's a mix between single-family and multiunits like duplexes. People mainly buy them to live in and rent the other side,” says Realtor Bernadette Ramirez, who has over a decade of experience in the region and works with PLF Real Estate Solutions. There's also a newer townhouse community called The Groves in the neighborhood’s northeastern section. Townhouses range from $750,000 to $925,000, while ranch-style homes range from $650,000 to $900,000. In contrast, ranch-tyle homes in the nearby neighborhood of West Whittier range from $750,000 to $1.7 million.Los Nietos Park and more recreation
Many residents can stroll over to Los Nietos Park, an 11-acre park on the southern end of the neighborhood. The recreation space has a playground updated in 2023 and picnic pavilions with barbecues, making it an ideal spot for large parties. For the athletes, there’s a baseball field and courts for basketball, volleyball and handball. This park has an indoor gym called the Activity Center, where there’s fitness equipment, basketball courts and a boxing training section. The San Gabriel River Trail runs along the neighborhood’s eastern edge. It’s a 35-mile path for walking and biking with views of the waterway and the San Gabriel Mountains.Events at Los Nietos Library and the neighborhood center
Los Nietos Library offers community events like story times, coloring for adults and conversation club, where people can practice their English language skills. At Gus Velasco Neighborhood Center, there’s bingo multiple days per week as well as special events like the Aloha Festival, which showcases Hawaiian and Polynesian culture with food, music and dancing.Eateries and stores on Norwalk Boulevard
There’s plentiful retail and restaurants in the northern part of Los Nietos, specifically on Norwalk Boulevard and Washington Boulevard. Thai Aree serves authentic dishes like pad thai in a casual, no-frills setting. At Michael’s Super Burgers, patrons can expect a fast-food joint serving burgers as well as Mexican dishes like menudo and burritos. To get groceries, there’s a Food4Less supermarket on the northern edge of the community.Los Nietos School District

The school offers opportunities for both academic and physical growth — among the electives is a course called Students Run Los Angeles, where students get to participate in a monthly calendar of races, ending with the Los Angeles Marathon in March.
