Skyhawk
Mountain Hawk Drive renews and rebuilds
Skyhawk’s well-paved, open streets are lined with sidewalks and small trees, rimmed by hills and mountains. Many homes here are set close together, built between the early 2000s and present day. Residents can often find contemporary versions of Craftsman and Spanish Colonial with high ceilings, large windows and multiple stories. They spread 3,000 to 4,000 square feet on large lots (10,000 square feet and up) with just enough space between them to not feel crowded, and average $1.5 million.Homes built in the 2020s can cost upwards of $2 million. Several contemporary ranch-style homes and farmhouses have replaced the 15 houses along Mountain Hawk Drive impacted by the 2020 Glass Fire. (Santa Rosa Fire Station #6 is just west on Calistoga Road and responds very quickly.) These new 5-bedroom, 3.5-bath homes feature eco-friendly materials, 4-car garages and outdoor kitchens. Set on lots of up to a half-acre, their backyards offer unobstructed views of the Mayacamas Mountains.
Top-notch education is a main draw
Kids might start out at the Niche A-minus rated Rincon Valley Union Elementary district, offering the A-rated Austin Creek Elementary that sits within neighborhood bounds (adjacent to the 20-acre Skyhawk Park). Rincon Valley Middle earns an A-minus, while Maria Carrillo High is both a California Distinguished School and the county’s highest rated public high school; offering an online Cyber High program for students that need to catch up on some credits.Hike to valley views from Hood Mountain Regional Park
Spanning 2,000 acres, Hood Mountain Regional Park offers about 19 miles of multi-use trails that lead to sweeping views of the Mayacamas Mountains, Sonoma Valley and sometimes (when weather allows) the Golden Gate Bridge. At 2,730 feet, Hood Mountain is the Mayacamas’ highest peak, and its Gunsight Rock vantage point is also reachable from adjacent Sugarloaf Ridge State Park, home to almost-as-tall Bald Mountain. Sugarloaf’s 25 miles of trails border rocky gorges, running through redwoods and meadow floors. After winter rains, the 25-foot waterfall by Sonoma Creek and the hills are rich with purple, orange and yellow wildflowers. At the park’s Robert Ferguson Observatory, residents can gaze at the stars and planets.Run errands at St. Francis
There are two neighborhood shopping centers along Highway 12. Located at the corner of Calistoga Road since 1968, the St. Francis Shopping Center is conveniently anchored by a Safeway. Grab some groceries, take away a bake-at-home Papa Murphy's pizza or stop in for the lunch special at China Village. At the corner of Mountain Hawk Drive, the compact Skyhawk Village is home to the locally owned Colleen’s Coffee Shop, a favorite among locals for the cozy atmosphere and baked goods. Travel about 6 miles west for retail therapy at the Coddingtown Shopping Center, offering over 40 specialty shops and a Target. Nearby wineries include the Ledson Castle in Kenwood and St. Francis Winery, both located about 4 miles from the Skyhawk community.US-101 leads South to the Golden Gate
San Francisco is approximately 60 miles south of Skyhawk, with a drive time of around 1 hour via the US-101. The community’s southern end is traversed east-west by Highway 12, leading to Downtown Santa Rosa in 5 miles - about 10 minutes, unless it’s rush hour, when that time can easily double or triple. Residents can take the Sonoma County Airport Express shuttle to the San Francisco Airport for international flights, while the Sonoma County Airport is located 12 miles away for domestic flights. In case of medical need, the Santa Rosa Providence Memorial Hospital is 5 miles away, providing residents with access to quality healthcare.Exceptionally low crime
Skyhawk has a CAP index score of 1 out of 10 when it comes to incidents of violent crime, significantly lower than the national average of 4.
