Brown County 45171
With a population of approximately 1,307, Sardinia is a tiny creekside village of friendly neighbors. “It’s a place where everyone knows everyone and supports each other,” says Realtor Jo Ann Morgan with Ring Real Estate Co. who has over 10 years of experience in the area. Settle down in a tight-knit community of seasonal events and locally-owned restaurants.
East of Cincinnati, the village is surrounded by the countryside. At only 1.24 square miles in size, it’s composed of a few main roads and blocks of single-family style homes. Strolling down sidewalks, find smaller yards decorated with garden beds and the occasional tree. The historical styles, some dating back to the 1800s, include Victorians with turrets and wraparound porches, Gothic Revivals with intricate trim, farmhouses and ranch-style cottages. The sales prices range from $85,000 for a ranch-style home to $253,000 for a Victorian.
Students in Sardinia go to the Eastern Local School District, which earns a B-minus grade according to Niche. The schools include Sardinia Elementary School, Eastern Middle School and Eastern High School. The elementary school has a B-minus grade, the middle school also has a B-minus and the high school earns a C-plus on Niche. The elementary school provides farm field trips, grandparents lunch and a fall carnival to give children an early sense of community.
To spend time outside in rural Ohio, Sardinia has a local park located next to the library. At Sardinia Park, walk by a creek on a little walking path or host a party in the picnic pavilion. Athletes can play pick-up basketball games on the half-court, while children play on the jungle gym. For book worms, there’s even a Little Free Library in the park.
The village has limited retail and restaurants, but it has enough for the basics. Buy groceries and household items at Family Dollar, then swing by Tractor Supply Co. for agricultural products. As for dining, the town has a few local restaurants for casual occasions. At family-owned Sardinia Perk, order coffee drinks and relax on the couch seating or play games like ping pong with friends. The Country Diner has classic breakfasts in a restaurant with a homestyle feel. Maddys Pizzaria is best known for large portions and hoagies in a no-frills interior.
As for local events, the town comes alive during many celebrations and get-togethers throughout the year. “It’s a family-friendly town where people raise kids. They have a lot of activities for children,” Morgan says. At the Brown County Public Library, bring kids to regular Storytimes or join a book club. The town has Sardinia Hometown Celebration complete with a fireworks display. At the annual car show, there are food vendors, live music and prizes. In the winter, the town has a Christmas Parade followed by cookies and hot cocoa with Santa.
About 45 miles from downtown Cincinnati, residents of Sardinia can commute to the big city via State Route 32 West. For weekend trips to the city, visit the Cincinnati Zoo or Findlay Market. In Sardinia, enjoy a small-town of friendly neighbors who gather at local restaurants and community events.
