Nature surrounds Seabeck, a coastal community near Silverdale
Hood Canal’s salty water laps upon the shores of Seabeck, a forested coastal community on the western edge of the Kitsap Peninsula. “As you look out across the canal in the summer, it's almost like a lake. The sunsets are absolutely amazing, and the Olympic Mountains rise dramatically from the water,” says Rich Jacobson, a broker at Fathom Realty with over 27 years of experience. “The only downside is that you don’t have much retail there in Seabeck, so you must go to Silverdale or Poulsbo for all grocery shopping. The benefit, though, is that you drive home and you’re back in beautiful country and feel like you’re in the middle of the wilderness.”
Homes off the main road and along the waterfront, behind many trees
Cottages and ranch-style homes are in the area; some have short driveways and are viewable from the main road. Many cottages are single-story, and their prices range from about $300,000 to $500,000. Ranch-style homes are priced between $590,000 and $800,000. Many custom homes were built near the water at the end of long driveways, hidden behind thick forests. Craftsman and modern features are common. Depending on proximity to the water and home size, custom home prices range from $700,000 to $4.3 million. Manufactured homes are also in Seabeck and fetch roughly between $250,000 and $530,000.
Seabeck's CAP Index Crime Score is 1 out of 10, the lowest possible. Meanwhile, the national average is 4.
Recreation on Hood Canal, hiking trails and shell fishing
Misery Point and Olympic View Marina, a local landmark, are public areas with access to the Hood Canal. “Seabeck is a popular area for shell fishing. It’s got oysters and clams. Shrimping is popular too,” Jacobson says. Scenic Beach State Park spans 88 acres of forested terrain with hiking trails, campgrounds and Emel House, a wedding venue. Its rocky shores are popular for kayaking, paddleboarding and bird watching. Guillemot Cove has over 2 miles of trails, which wind through forest and meadow.
A general store, local restaurants and national brands in Silverdale
Seabeck Highway runs parallel to the coast and is home to the Seabeck Landing General Store. Seabeck Pizza and Barbie’s Cafe at Seabeck Landing are also near the marina. “Silverdale is the nearby town that serves as the retail mecca. Big box stores are there like Costco, Target and Best Buy,” Jacobson says. Kitsap Mall is also in Silverdale and includes Kohl’s and JCPenney.
Attending Central Kitsap schools and Advanced Placement course options
Central Kitsap School District serves Seabeck. Students from outside the district may apply to attend the district’s schools. The area is zoned for Cougar Valley Elementary School and Klahowya Secondary School, a sixth through 12th-grade institution. Both schools earn B grades from Niche. Klahowya offers Advanced Placement courses, including AP United States history and AP chemistry.
Coastal Kitsap community connected to major cities and employers
Seabeck Highway connects the area to Silverdale, about 8 miles away. St. Michael Medical Center is a major employer and hospital on the peninsula, located in Silverdale. State Highway 3 ties the area to Poulsbo, about a 15-mile drive northeast, and Bremerton, about the same distance southeast. Bremerton is home to the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and has a ferry terminal linked to Seattle’s terminal, a nearly hour ferry ride away. The Seattle-Tacoma International Airport — or “SeaTac” — is about 65 miles away by land.
