Space travel and highway travel are synonymous with Seabrook. The unincorporated Maryland community 8 miles from Washington was developed across the street from NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center. Engineers build advanced telescopes and scientists study the sun at Goddard, one of the largest employers in Prince George’s County. Meanwhile, the parkways, highways and interstate surrounding Seabrook and connecting it to the Washington metro area draw buyers to the suburb of 20,000 people. The space center appeals to them, and the proximity to the [Baltimore Washington Parkway] does as well. For my clients, it was lovely being able to get around easily,” says Kadjologo Coulibaly, a broker at Maison RZK who has worked in Washington-area real estate for a decade.

Lower home prices than nearby Bowie
In Seabrook’s subdivisions, ranches and split-level homes built in the ‘60s and ‘70s sit close together on tight lots. Larger new traditional houses developed in the ’90s are found on the north side of the community, along with townhouses and condos. Seabrook’s median price of $420,000 is slightly higher than the national median. Seabrook is smaller and has fewer amenities than the nearby city of Bowie, but the median price there is roughly $80,000 more compared to Seabrook. “You’re not far from Bowie, but you’re not dealing with Bowie prices,” Coulibaly says.

Pocket parks across Seabrook
Small municipal parks dot Seabrook, providing spots to shoot hoops, stroll through the woods or let kids run around on playgrounds. Directly west of Seabrook, Schrom Hills Park is a larger green space with bike trails, two playgrounds and multiple athletic fields among its 17 acres. Winter temperatures sometimes dip below freezing, and moderate snowfall is common in January, but Good Luck Community Center and Capital Sportsplex both offer indoor sports leagues and fitness classes for kids and adults.

Convenient to Capital Beltway, Seabrook MARC station
Various highways extending through Seabrook connect to Washington; that includes Interstate 495, also known as the Capital Beltway. Highway access is one of the most appealing parts of Seabrook for homebuyers, Coulibaly says. The 9-mile drive to the district can take between 15 and 30 minutes, and the trip may last twice as long for those headed to Capitol Hill or downtown. Trains departing the Seabrook MARC station arrive at Washington’s Union Station in about 20 minutes. Sixteen miles south of Seabrook, Ronal Reagan Washington National Airport flies nonstop to more than 100 airports across the U.S.
