The Eastlake neighborhood is just three miles north of Seattle and is right on Lake Union.
Lake Union peninsula with waterfront views
Located on the eastern shore of Lake Union’s peninsula, Eastlake offers a serene setting with towering big leaf maples and evergreens. Homes buoyed on the docks provide residents with waterfront views, and rooftop patios provide a place to unwind. Eastlake residents enjoy easy access to Lake Union's shoreline from any part of the community. Amenities such as the Tyee Yacht Club enhance the waterfront lifestyle.
With a population of just over 5,600 residents, Eastlake’s accessibility is facilitated by the nearby Interstate 5 Expressway (I-5), which runs along the community's eastern side. Eastlake's sister neighborhood, Portage Bay, lies to the east, separated by I-5. Niche gives Eastlake an overall A-plus score with outdoor activities, public schools, commuting and nightlife earning the highest praise from locals.
Floating homes and houseboats overlooking the lake
Homes cost an average of nearly $1.2 million and sell after 31 days on the market, compared to the national average of 42 days. A distinct feature of the community is that along the lake’s edge, the docks serve as the neighborhood’s ‘streets.’ Floating homes and houseboats add a touch of uniqueness to Eastlake’s housing stock. These homes overlook the lake, some with rooftop decks, serving as outdoor rooms where residents can take in the sounds, sights and smells of the water. They sell for the high $800,000s and can reach up to almost $3 million. "Floating homes are worth more here, with the Space Needle view," says Courtney Cooper Neese, area resident and Realtor at Keller Williams North.
Along the traditional streets, there are a variety of home styles including cottages with picket fences, colonial-style, elevated Craftsman and modern two-story homes with rooftop decks. These homes are situated on single lots, adding a sense of coziness Eastlake buyers can invest in these homes with original details and an ultra-spacious floorplan for $1 million on the low end and up to $2.5 million. Modern condos are available starting at $500,000, while classic Tudors and Craftsman homes, which are rare to come by, typically cost around $1.5 million. Homes in Eastlake are situated on individual lots but are closely spaced, giving the neighborhood a cozy vibe.

Pocket parks and fly fishing opportunities
Pocket parks and lakeside inlets pattern Eastlake's watery edge. Locals can catch the sunset at Fairview Park after a walk along the winding footpath. Those looking to engage in aquatic adventures can take their kayak into the water from the park. It’s also a go-to spot for fly fishing from the dock and for a casual picnic with views of Seattle's iconic Gas Works Park, located across the lake. Other mini parks include Terry Pettus Park and Roanoke Street Mini Park.
In addition to the mini-parks, Eastlake has a few street ends, known as Seattle Street Ends. These are part of the Shoreline Street Ends program, which aims to enhance access to and enjoyment of Seattle's shorelines by providing access points where streets meet the water.

Very pleasant and walkable, beautiful views of the bridge, the Space Needle, the lake and sailboats. Parking can be difficult, but I don't own a car, so it's not an issue for me.

I think this is a great area to live. I feel like the cost of living doesn't match up with the minimum wage of the city though.

The area is quiet and very community-oriented, unlike other Seattle neighborhoods. The property crime rate is very low and public transit efficiently runs through the town.
