Sebring is a village with small-town charm and a 55-plus community
Incorporated in 1899, Sebring was named after the Sebring family, who sought to create a pottery town with their ceramics factories. The height of this industry enabled 3,300 employees to work in the area and earned Sebring the nickname “Pottery Capital of the World.” The pottery has since declined, but the village’s small-town atmosphere remains. Sebring offers Main Street-style retail, locally owned businesses and community events. The area’s population of approximately 4,100 includes many retirees, who live in the Copeland Oaks 55-plus community.
Local businesses, including Royal Star Diner and Concern
North 15th Street and West Ohio Avenue converge in the center of the village, offering residents a walkable retail hub. The local restaurants range from the casual tavern The Brickhouse Bar & Grill to Panda Garden, a no-frills spot for Chinese food. On the south side of Sebring, Royal Star Diner is the most popular restaurant in the community, serving breakfasts in an old-school setting. Log Cabin and the Oregon Pub both offer nightlife, with closing times at 2 a.m. The area’s shops include the thrift store Concern and a variety store called Ashton Store. For produce and other groceries, residents can drive to Save A Lot, a supermarket about 5 miles west of the community.
Victorians, ranch-style houses and contemporary homes in Sebring
Central Sebring has grid-style blocks of historical houses on lawns often landscaped with hostas and maple trees. The area’s architecture includes Victorians ranging from $130,000 to $310,000 and bungalows, which range from $40,000 to $150,000. The edges of the village offer streets of ranch-style houses, which start from $80,000 and go up to $190,000. The outskirts of the village have a few contemporary homes ranging from $140,000 to $340,000. The Copeland Oaks 55-plus community has apartment options on the south end of Sebring. “It's a little town. Many buyers are already from there,” says Realtor Nerissa Maris, who works with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices and has about two decades of experience in the area. Homes stay on the market for 37 days on average, compared to the national average of 50 days. “In general, it’s a buyers' market and has been for the last several years. We don't experience the ups and downs of other areas,” Maris says.
The Firemans Festival and Copeland Oaks Cruise-In Around the Lake
In June, the annual Firemans Festival is a four-day event, with activities like a parade, a concert and a coronation for the celebration’s queen. “It’s a festival with rides and food, and a lot of local people go there,” Maris says. Copeland Oaks Cruise-In Around the Lake takes place at the 55-plus community in July. Attendees can watch classic cars drive around and enjoy live music.
B.L. Miller Elementary and McKinley High
B.L. Miller Elementary School, which serves prekindergarten through fifth grade, has a B-minus rating on Niche. Serving sixth through 12th grade, McKinley High School earns a B rating. The high school’s course selection includes drones, international politics and Reading Enrichment, a book club-style class.
Recreation areas from Crewson Woods North Side Park to Sebring Woods
Crewson Woods North Side Park offers a picnic pavilion, a basketball hoop and a playground with a swing set on the north end of Sebring. Open in the summertime, Sebring Municipal Pool is a popular spot to cool off in the middle of town. Sebring Woods, on the northern outskirts of the village, has a trail through maple trees and oaks, making it an ideal place to explore in autumn. A few miles east of Sebring, Beloit Village Park features a disc golf course, plus a cornhole set and a volleyball court.
A 35-mile commute to Youngstown and more transportation
The community’s employers include manufacturers like TruCut Incorporated and Vacuform Inc, both located on the north side of town. Sebring is only about 5 miles away from the city of Alliance. Via state Route 534, the community is about 35 miles away from Youngstown. Akron-Canton Airport, the closest major airport, is about 25 miles away.
