Sharon is a welcoming community brimming with natural beauty
The town of Sharon, poised between Boston and Providence, is bursting with natural beauty. Locals can access more than 5,000 acres of public amenities, including parks, trails and bodies of water. “Housing is spread out. It’s mostly single-family, and homes often have large lots,” says Javier Hurtado Grandon, Realtor with Keller Williams Boston Metrowest, who has lived near Sharon for nearly 20 years. “It also has a highly sought-after school district.” A commuter rail station in town allows for easy transportation around the Boston area. Sharon prides itself on being welcoming to people of all backgrounds and beliefs. New residents can find several Jewish synagogues, an Islamic center, a Hindu temple and many other houses of worship.

Summers at Lake Massapoag and picking fruit at Wards Berry Farm
The open space in Sharon is one of the draws for new residents. Lake Massapoag, which marks the center of Sharon, is a central gathering place for summer swims and concerts. The lake is a popular spot to watch sunsets as well. In spring, the lake is stocked with trout — anglers also catch pickerel, bass and eel. Those who enjoy time in the woods can explore the 2,250-acre Mass Audubon's Moose Hill Wildlife Sanctuary and the 1,250-acre Borderland State Park. Between the two, locals have miles of trails to hike and bike. Those with an interest in history can visit the historic Ames Mansion, an impressive manor-style home with a facade made from locally sourced stone. Ames Mansion has appeared in multiple movies, including the 2016 edition of “Ghostbusters.” In summer and fall, Ward's Berry Farm offers pick-your-own fruit and hayrides through the fields. The farm store also carries a variety of prepared foods.

Dining out at the intersection of Billings Street and South Main Street
There is a Shaw’s supermarket just south of Ward's Berry Farm, which is a convenient option for grabbing meal ingredients. Hurtado Grandon says that Angel’s Cafe is a popular restaurant in Sharon — its offerings include everything from waffles to falafel wraps. Angels is located at the intersection of Billings Street and South Main Street. Nearby are a handful of other restaurants, including Coriander Bistro, Carriage House Pizza Company and Mandarin Taste. Farther down Main Street is another pocket of eateries, where diners can enjoy Israeli-style comfort foods from Simcha, spicy dan dan noodles from Sichuan Gourmet Sharon and smoked brisket with a side of couscous at A La Esh.

Events hosted by the Sharon Recreation Department
The town of Sharon maintains a calendar that highlights the religious and cultural holidays celebrated by its residents. Town-sponsored events are secularly based to allow those of all beliefs to participate. There is a Memorial Day parade and a celebration to mark Independence Day as well. In May, locals can share their artistic talents through the Chalk Art Festival, which is hosted by the Sharon Cultural Council. An annual Sharon Day, complete with food trucks and live music, takes place in October on the Veteran’s Park Beach. The Sharon Recreation Department also organizes a concert series and a long list of events and programs for area youth. One of these is the annual fishing derby, where young competitors can win prizes for catching the largest, smallest or most unique fish.
Large lots and varied home styles in Sharon
The oldest options in Sharon’s housing inventory date back to the 18th century, when this town was incorporated. Houses here run the gamut from that time period, through the 19th and 20th centuries and into the 21st — there’s a fair share of recent construction in the area. Various home styles are intermingled and come in all shapes and sizes. One of the common denominators in Sharon is lawn space — residences usually come with lots of at least 5,600 square feet, though many are much larger. Buyers might find starter-sized Cape Cods or Minimal Traditionals in the $400,000s, and custom new traditional-style residences top out the real estate market at around $2 million. Though single-family homes dominate the area’s real estate, there are also a few multi-family options, including condos and townhouses. Prices for these range from around $300,000 for basic, one-bedroom units to over $1 million for luxury ones.

Sharon offers an MBTA station and access to I-95
Commuters in Sharon enjoy the community’s proximity to Interstate 95. Drivers can hop on I-95 to start trips into Boston, which is about 26 miles north. Providence, Rhode Island, is also located within a 30-mile drive. Though traditionally, many residents in the area worked in either Boston or Providence, now, many residents telecommute for the majority of the workweek, Hurtado Grandon says. “They can also drive, walk or bike to the MBTA station, depending on the weather.” The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority commuter rail runs right through town, making trips directly into both Boston and Providence.
