Shoal Creek offers luxury and privacy

The gated community of Shoal Creek, east of Birmingham, attracts buyers looking for luxury and privacy, according to Realtor Tiffany Bittner with ARC Realty. “It’s a very exclusive neighborhood,” she says. “People flock to this area because they want high-end property. They want privacy and a lot of amenities.” Shoal Creek is situated in the Appalachian foothills at the base of Double Oak Mountain, providing a scenic backdrop for the sprawling estates of its residents. Full-time security staff adds an extra sense of safety, and an award-winning golf course and natural trails throughout the community make relaxation easy.

High-end homes sit on sprawling properties

Shoal Creek offers large, primarily New Traditional single-family homes in a gated community with security staff on-site 24 hours a day, seven days a week. “They’re high-end homes with high-end finishes,” Bittner says. Most homes are between 2,500 and 9,000 square feet, and many are situated on multiple acres. Prices generally fall between $500,000 and $1 million, but some homes sell for $1 to $3 million, typically large new constructions on acreage. Shoal Creek’s winding residential streets are usually lined with sidewalks and towering trees.

Students attend Shelby County Schools or Hilltop Montessori

Shelby County Schools gets an A-minus grade from Niche. Mt Laurel Elementary receives an A, Chelsea Middle gets an A-minus, and Chelsea High School gets a B-plus. Chelsea High School students can explore Career Technical Education pathways, including business information technology, management and marketing. Shoal Creek is also home to Hilltop Montessori School, a private, A-rated school serving preschool through eighth-grade students.

Residents enjoy natural scenery and a world-class golf course

Bittner says that Shoal Creek is known for its golf course, a world-class, award-winning course designed by Jack Nicklaus that has hosted multiple championship tours. The community also offers numerous opportunities to enjoy its natural scenery, situated at the base of Double Oak Mountain in the Appalachian foothills. A private pool serves the community, private trails accommodate hiking, and quiet roads serve as paths for cycling. Lakes and streams throughout the community offer opportunities for kayaking, canoeing and fishing. About 3 miles away, Dunnavant Valley Greenway offers additional hiking opportunities.

Dining at local restaurants and shopping for groceries

Area 41 Pizza Company is a local pizza shop serving brick-oven pizza with homemade dough alongside beer, wine and occasional live music. Shiki Sakura is a cozy local Chinese and sushi restaurant. La Paz serves Mexican food and margaritas and has a fire pit on its patio. Mt Laurel Grocery is a small, independent grocery store in Shoal Creek. Piggly Wiggly is just 1 mile away.

U.S. Highway 280 connects to Birmingham

Shoal Creek sits a mile away from U.S. Highway 280, which connects to Birmingham. Its closest hospital is Grandview Medical Center, less than 10 miles away, and the nearest airport is Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International, about 20 miles away.

GreatSchools: The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
