A quiet suburb home base just minutes from Stockton amenities
Nestled in the northern part of Stockton and along the 5, Sherwoods Manor is a residential community with a suburban feel while staying within 10 miles of downtown Stockton and Lodi. “People are really drawn to this part of town for its accessibility and affordability,” says Tiffany Stevens, a local property manager. “But it doesn’t look cheap. The streets look nice, and it’s great for walking during a sunny day. It’s one of the most desirable areas in Stockton.” Sherwoods Manor might be predominately streets lined with houses, residents are right by major motorways and shopping centers for easy access. “For people who just like to go to work and have a quiet night at home most nights, this is probably their part of town,” Stevens says.
Ranches and Colonial-inspired homes around Sherwoods Manor
In Sherwoods Manor, people might see brick ranches huddled between a contemporary single-family and a Colonial-inspired house, all built around the late 80s and early 90s. Two-car garages are standard and are often the front-facing features on homes, with enough room in the driveway to fit three large cars. Sidewalks run along both sides of the street and are flush with the road. Neighborhoods are more open in Sherwoods Manor, with infrequent trees. Instead, landscaping is limited to the immediate space around the front stoop and pathway. Homes will typically list between $450,000 and $600,000.
Paddleboat rentals at Shumway Oak Grove Regional Park
Sandman Park is at the heart of Sherwoods Manor, offering plenty of open green space and walking paths through the trees. Athletes can enjoy the two baseball diamonds and courts for basketball and tennis found here. To north in Spanos Park, Shumway Oak Grove Regional Park features a 10-acre lake stocked with catfish and trout. On the weekends from April to October, visitors can rent paddleboats. People can stroll along the 1.5-mile acre trail or play a round on the disc golf course. To the south, parks off Pacific Avenue offer more amenities. “At Anderson Park, there’s a little skateboard park where the kids go and hang out,” says Realtor Lance McHan with Lance McHan. “Sherwood Sharks, which is a local little swim team, and they practice at Lucy Park. It’s a great little swim league there. My kids were competitors with them.”
CTE courses through Bear Creek High School
Even though Sherwoods Manor is part of Stockton, students are districted for Lodi Unified School District. Students can attend Creekside Elementary School and Delta Sierra Middle School, which both receive C rankings from Niche. Bear Creek High School buses students to Lincoln Technical Academy (LTA) for Career Technology Education (CTE) courses. The school earns a B from Niche.
The best Filippino cuisine found right in Sherwoods Manor
To the south of Sherwoods Manor, Lincoln Center offers grocery destinations, like Trader Joe’s and Safeway, just over 3 miles from the community. Residents can also find Market Tavern here, which offers a fine dining experience with skirt steaks and short ribs featured on its menu. People can also get prepared foods in their market section, like pies, breads and wines. Papapavlo’s Bistro and Bar showcases classic Greek cuisine alongside ribeye and sirloin steaks. Along Thorton Road, people can stop in Best Lumpia. As the name implies, the Filippino joint is known for its incredible lumpia, but people also enjoy their adobo. For more shopping options, people can stop in the Target at Park West Place, just 2.8 miles from Sherwoods Manor.
Residents drive along the 5 to downtown Stockton
Buses stop along the bigger roads in the neighborhood, like Wagner Heights Road and Stanfield Drive, connecting residents with larger thoroughfares like Thornton Road and Hammer Lane. The 5 runs along the western side of the neighborhood, connecting it to downtown Stockton, just 9 miles away. Downtown Lodi is just 10 miles north of Sherwoods Manor. For frequent flyers, Stockton Metropolitan Airport is 14 miles away and offers nonstop flights to Vegas and Phoenix. The nearest hospital is Dignity Health-St. Joseph’s Medical Center, located closer to downtown and about 7 miles from Sherwoods Manor.
Downtown Stockton's diverse cultural events
Because Sherwoods Manor is a quiet suburban community, residents will likely have to head into downtown Stockton for events and festivals, but thankfully the city has plenty to choose from. From June to August, people can head to Victory Park for Concerts in the Park every Wednesday evening. People bring their own picnic blankets and chairs to get comfortable with family and friends on the lawn. Stockton Flavor Fest in May features Stockton’s best food, cultural performances and live art demos to support the city’s local nonprofit organizations. The city’s various cultural groups also host different events, like the Chinese and Cambodian New Year celebrations or the Jewish Food Fair hosted by the local temple.
