Waterfront town between Sacramento and San Francisco
Suisun City residents spend their days walking along the waterfront, where they enjoy views of stately boats and soaring seagulls, grab a bite to eat, or participate in a community event. The city is located on the Suisun Marsh – the largest marsh on the West Coast. But residents are close to more than just the water. “We’re pretty much equidistant between Sacramento and San Francisco; we’re near Napa,” says Michelle Franzen, Supervising Librarian at the Suisun City Library. “So I think it’s a nice location because it’s near a lot of things.” Military families find Suisun City a convenient 8 miles away from the Travis Air Force Base. Solano County, in which Suisun City is located, is the most diverse in the country, according to the Association of Bay Area Governments and the Metropolitan Transportation Commission. Those who call Suisun City home can brag about A-minus schools, community parks and open spaces and annual events that bring 29,000 residents together.

Listen for planes, watch for flooding
The closer homes are to the Travis Air Force Base, the louder planes coming to and from the base will sound – although it doesn’t tend to be a major nuisance for residents. “Once you’ve lived here long enough, you just don’t notice those things,” Franzen says. Because of its proximity to the marsh and rising sea levels, Suisun City is at risk for flooding.
