Sunfish Lake offers a secluded neighborhood with waterfront scenery and proximity to Minneapolis. “People have quite a bit of privacy and great views, but they are within minutes of the city and airport,” says Sally English, a Realtor with Coldwell Banker Realty who has lived in the area for 16 years. You’ll find luxury in the homes offered in the area, with 1970s contemporary-style homes ranging from $800,000 to $900,000 with grassy lawns and wooded backyards. There’s also the option of living in gated subdivisions with single-family homes ranging from $1 million to $2.7 million with polished lawns and long, paved driveways.

Pre-kindergarteners through fourth graders may attend Somerset Elementary School, which has an A-minus from Niche. Fifth through eighth graders may then attend Friendly Hills Middle School, which scores a B grade and hosts a ‘Battle of the Books’ reading competition for the students. Students may advance to Two Rivers High School, which Niche ranks as the sixth best high school in Dakota County. In addition to an A-minus rating, the school offers an extensive list of extracurricular activities like a cooking and bowling club.
Friendly Hills Middle School has a full time school counselor on staff.
Two Rivers High School, located in Mendota Heights and was founded in 1954. It serves grades 9-12.

You can grab a bite to eat at Ze’s Diner, a retro-style diner that sells breakfast, lunch and dinner. Or head to Tommy Chicago’s Pizzeria, which is right around the corner, for their lunch buffet special.
On the weekend, you can get brunch with a martini on the side at The Copperfield, which is located off Minnesota Highway 62. When a vacation is needed, you can book a flight and drive just eight miles down Highway 62 to Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. The area hosts many local events that you can attend, like a Halloween hayride and chili cook-off. “The neighborhood also hosts a Derby party every year in May at someone’s house, and the whole neighborhood comes over to watch,” says English. “It gives the place a nice neighborly feel.” If you’re looking for community and solitude, Sunfish Lake is a private oasis with quick access to the city.
