A Silicon Valley suburb anchored by a park
In the heart of Silicon Valley, an area that's been defined by its association with the tech industry since the 1980s, is Sunnyvale, California. The city is home to approximately 155,000 people, and Ponderosa Park, a primarily residential neighborhood anchored by playgrounds and tennis courts, has become a go-to home base for commuters. Companies like Walmart Labs, 23andMe and new Google corporate offices are about 5 miles away, and Downtown San Jose is a 10-mile drive east. “Sunnyvale’s relationship with technology goes back decades and decades,” says Milestone Realty’s Linda Baker, who’s called the area home her whole life. “We have our own version of rockstars, and those are the original tech CEOs,” she adds, also speaking to the area’s cultural diversity, natural beauty and dependably sunny weather. “We’re really a very open community…I’m sort of a walking billboard when it comes to promoting the area.”

The Sunnyvale Heritage Park Museum, lessons on tech history and haunted mansions
Martin Murphy Jr. and his family traveled via wagon to California in the mid-1800s, putting down roots in what is now Sunnyvale. Today, a 2000s-era replica of the original Murphy house serves as the home base for the Sunnyvale Heritage Park Museum, where rooms on the first floor have been decorated to reflect 19th-century styles. There are also rotating exhibits featuring information about everything from the city's agricultural days to the origins of the tech industry. Visitors to the Intel Museum can learn about how silicon chips are made, and the infamous Winchester Mystery House is about 15 minutes from Ponderosa Park. Downtown San Jose offers dozens of entertainment options farther west. There's a children's museum with a full-sized fire truck, a performing arts center that hosts touring Broadway shows and an Egyptian history museum.
You'll find 10 acres of apricot trees honoring the city’s orchard days at Heritage Park Museum.

Koreatown along El Camino Real
Although the neighborhood is primarily residential, there are shopping and dining opportunities a short drive—and sometimes even a walk—away along El Camino Real. Grocery stores like Hankook Supermarket and India Cash & Carry sell a variety of imported goods, and the thoroughfare eventually transitions into Santa Clara's Koreatown. Notable restaurants include Korean Spring BBQ, Roll House and SGD Tofu House, which is known for its Sundubu-jjigae, or soft tofu soup. W"e have some of the best restaurants because of the diversity in the area," says Baker. Shoppers can also drive to the Costco Wholesale on Lawrence Expressway, and chains like Target and Whole Foods are about 2 miles away in downtown Sunnyvale's Heritage District. "Downtown Sunnyvale has definitely seen a really nice resurgence," continues Baker, adding, "There’s always events going on and lots of little stores as well as bigger department stores."
One of the locals favorite dish is soft tofu soup from SGD Tofu House.

VTA routes, the Caltrain and nonstop air travel
"Your commutes can be literally minutes to Apple, Google, wherever," says Baker, adding that the area's main appeal is "its very close proximity to the leading employers of Silicon Valley." The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority connects Sunnyvale to surrounding communities via bus and light rail, and there's also the Caltrain commuter rail, which stops in Sunnyvale on its way to San Fransisco.
