An eclectic community

Thurston is a small community with a population of less than 1,000 that comprises homes, businesses and natural beauty. Narrow tree-lined streets wind throughout the neighborhood, revealing well-kept older and newer homes that are set back from the street. Named after the local elementary school, Thurston offers a highly-rated school system and proximity to the University of Michigan and Downtown Ann Arbor. “A lot of employees from the university live here,” says Matt Dejanovitch, a 36-year Realtor with Real Estate One.

In 1880, an old barn was deconstructed to build Dixboro House, later used as a restaurant in the 1920s. The century-old barn has since been updated. “The decor includes 140-year-old timbers, a gambrel vaulted ceiling and the original stone fireplace,” writes Adrienne Brady, marketing director for the Pulpo Group.
