Happy Trails
Pickleball and plenty of golf
There’s no shortage of activities at Happy Trails, where residents can join the community band, participate in dances and play card games daily. There are four community pools that often host pool volleyball and water aerobics. “There’s tons of participation from our residents in all of our activities,” says Dickies. The resort also offers 10 pickleball courts and four tennis courts. As is the case all over Arizona, there are plenty of golf courses near Happy Trails. The Arizona Traditions Golf Club is a par-70 18-hole course just to the west of Happy Trails. Granite Falls Golf Club has a pair of courses just north of the community. Residents can also head to Surprise Stadium during February and March to catch Texas Rangers and Kansas City Royals Spring Training games.Chef Peter's on-site
Residents don’t need to travel far for meals. Chef Peter’s Bistro is a restaurant on-site that is open Tuesday-Sunday providing breakfast and lunch. The restaurant also offers dinner on Fridays. The menu is made up of classic American fare with a southwestern twist. “Some residents eat there every day it’s open,” claims Dickies. Just south of the neighborhood is Bell Road which features plenty of other local eateries, like Sakura Sushi Teppan. Oregano’s is a local chain with Italian classics and Chicago deep dish pizza. Diners can grab a drink at the bar or sit at one of the many booths under the eclectic decor hanging from the walls and ceilings. Great Eagle Bar & Grill has an outdoor patio where locals can enjoy one of 20 craft beers with a view. Safeway and WinCo Foods both have locations just south of Bell Road.Single-story homes
Housing in Happy Trails consists largely of two-bedroom, two-bathroom single-story units with parking large enough for RV access. Most units have covered porches where residents can enjoy the dry Arizona air. While the community opened in 1985, most of the houses were built in the early 1990s. Homes are around 800 total square feet and wheelchair accessible. Many homes have hanging plants outside their homes to brighten up the community. Units are priced between $235,000 and $260,000. There are no sidewalks, but it’s still walkable, as the roads are quiet, with little traffic. Dog lovers will appreciate the off-leash park on-site.No public transit
The neighborhood is located just a mile west of Highway 303, which provides direct access to Route 60. Locals can take Route 60 for 13 miles to Glendale or 30 miles to downtown Phoenix. Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is about 32 miles away and can be accessed in 45 minutes. There is no public transportation in the neighborhood, so a car is a necessity.
