Court-Woodlawn

Court-Woodlawn

A collar Syracuse neighborhood with character and convenience

Situated on the northern outskirts of Syracuse’s city center, Court-Woodlawn blends a more suburban feel with connectivity to the city’s many amenities. Anchored by Court Street and Woodlawn Cemetery, the collar neighborhood offers a quieter feel while keeping residents close to central Syracuse, shopping and recreation. Folk-style homes define this pocket of Syracuse, further adding to a neighborhoodly vibe and also offering lower prices than surrounding communities.

Traditional architecture and folk-style homes define this community

Court-Woodlawn’s more suburban feel arises from its neatly lined rows of homes that unfurl along its residential streets. Vernacular folk-style homes with traditional colonial influences are most common here, mainly two-storied on smaller yet modest lots. Bungalows and foursquares mingle in between, rounding out the housing inventory. Typically, prices can range from the low $100,000s to about $375,000.

Access to education spanning primary to doctorate

Students are part of the Syracuse City School District, which earns a C-plus overall score from Niche. Kids may begin their education at Webster Elementary School for prekindergarten through fifth grade, which sits centrally in the neighborhood, before advancing to Grant Middle School, which covers sixth through eighth grades. Both schools get a C grade. Henninger High School receives a C-plus. The school has a strong athletics program and boasts a diverse student body. It also offers college and career readiness programs, including the Advancement Via Individual Determination program, which helps students develop skills for life after graduation. Court-Woodlawn also provides proximity to Syracuse’s higher education, which includes Syracuse University and select colleges of SUNY, as well as a handful of community colleges.

Sehr Park features pickleball and tennis courts, basketball courts and a soccer field. Its public pool is open seasonally. Schiller Park to the south also has a community swimming pool as well as a playground and athletic fields. Nearby community centers include the Butternut Community Police Center at Schiller Park and the Magnarelli Community Center, which offers additional athletic facilities and diverse programs for all ages.
