Tahoe Vista, a lakeside community
Tahoe Vista, located on the northern shores of Lake Tahoe, is dotted with beaches and parks, lodges and kitschy small businesses and restaurants. Most residents live in log cabin homes. It shouldn't come as a surprise that the unparalleled access to the lake is a major draw for homebuyers to settle in and call Tahoe Vista home. It's also very close to major ski resorts.

Speaking of lakefront houses, they are well sought after in the community. In most cases, residents who score a lakefront property live steps away from the beach, making their backyard Lake Tahoe. While more inland log cabin houses are extremely popular among Tahoe Vista residents. The neighborhood also has newer contemporary-style mountain estates and newly built condominium developments. Driving along the neighborhood streets, this lakeside community feels like a dense forest. More inland, the steep roadways are flanked on either side with thick tree lines, but even along the beaches, there are plenty of tall pine trees.

Highly rated public schools
Neighborhood children can attend the Tahoe Truckee Unified School District. They can begin their schooling at Kings Beach Elementary, which has an overall B-plus rating from Niche. At Kings Beach Elementary, the school's goal is for students to be fluent and literate in English and Spanish. Students can then attend North Tahoe School for their middle school years. North Tahoe School has an overall A-minus rating from Niche. High schoolers can attend the highly rated North Tahoe High School, which Niche recognizes with an overall A ranking. North Tahoe High is home to a highly acclaimed music program, including a popular jazz band. The high school also offers a Ski/Independent Study Academy. Students pursuing competitive downhill, Nordic skiing, or other extracurriculars that make it difficult to attend school regularly can enroll in the academy's customized study programs to provide a flexible schedule without losing a comprehensive high school experience.

Hiking, lake access and skiing
Nature surrounds Tahoe Vista. From the lakeside beaches, including North Tahoe Beach, Moon Dune Beach and marinas, to the 124-acre North Tahoe Regional Park. The regional park has playgrounds, tennis courts and a disc golf area. There's also a high-ropes challenge course and a fenced-in dog park at the North Tahoe Regional Park. Mountain bikers and hikers can spend time on the Tahoe Rim Trail. For locals who prefer land recreation, specifically skiing and snowboarding, Tahoe Vista is close to a few Lake Tahoe area ski resorts like Northstar California Resort and Palisades Tahoe.

Along North Lake Boulevard, the neighborhood's main thoroughfare, are plenty of local eateries, small businesses and bus stops. Pep's Place also serves Tahoe Teas of Carnelian Bay — less than 5 miles from Pep's — and Blind Dogs Coffee, an organic coffee company based in Gardnerville, Nevada. During the summer, locals can beat the heat with an ice cream cone from the Cable Car Ice Cream Shop at the Mourelatos Lakeshore Resort. When cooking or entertaining at home, residents can get everything they need at their neighborhood Safeway.
Getting around Tahoe
Residents can get around by car or riding the Tahoe Area Regional Transit (TART). The bus runs seven days a week along the 30 miles of the Lake Tahoe shoreline. Tahoe Vista locals can cross state lines into Nevada in as little as 3 miles or travel to the Tahoe National Forest in roughly 53 miles. Sacramento is the closest major California city, about 115 miles from Tahoe Vista.
