For locals who prefer land recreation, specifically skiing and snowboarding, Tahoe Vista is close to a few Lake Tahoe area ski resorts like Northstar California Resort and Palisades Tahoe.
Along North Lake Boulevard, the neighborhood's main thoroughfare, are plenty of local eateries, small businesses and bus stops. Pep's Place, described as an absolute gem by patrons, has breakfast burritos, lunch sandwiches and an array of salads. Pep's Place also serves Tahoe Teas of Carnelian Bay — less than 5 miles from Pep's — and Blind Dogs Coffee, an organic coffee company based in Gardnerville, Nevada. During the summer, locals can beat the heat with an ice cream cone from the Cable Car Ice Cream Shop at the Mourelatos Lakeshore Resort. Residents can get around by car or riding the Tahoe Area Regional Transit (TART). The bus runs seven days a week along the 30 miles of the Lake Tahoe shoreline. Tahoe Vista locals can cross state lines into Nevada in as little as 3 miles or travel to the Tahoe National Forest in roughly 53 miles. Sacramento is the closest major California city, about 115 miles from Tahoe Vista.
