Prices typically range from the low $600,000s to the high $700,000s, although select homes can list for more. “The houses are cute,” says Roxanne Adams, a Realtor with eXp Realty who has sold homes in Tara Hills. “A lot of families live there.” Homeowners enjoy an additional benefit when it comes to of purchasing a home in Tara Hills instead Pinole or San Pablo . “It’s unincorporated, so you don’t have to deal with the city for renovations or other work on your home,” Adams says.

Tara Hills Elementary and a special needs school in the community
Tara Hills is part of the West Contra Costa Unified School District, and students in kindergarten through sixth grade enjoy the convenience of being able to attend school in the community at Tara Hills Elementary School. Older students can attend nearby Pinole Middle School and Pinole Valley High School. The high school offers Advanced Placement courses and career-based learning academies.
The community is also home to the Spectrum Center School Tara Hills Campus, a state-certified private school that specializes in serving students with special needs. El Sobrante Christian School, rated A-minus by Niche, is another private option.

Point Pinole Regional Shoreline is a unique waterfront destination along the shores of San Pablo Bay known for its walking trails and scenic views. Visitors to Bayfront Park in Old Town Pinole can take advantage of a paved path that is popular with runners, bike riders and skaters. Fernandez Park, also in Old Town Pinole, offers children’s play areas, ballfields and basketball courts and access to the Pinole Creek Trail. The park also hosts community events such as movie nights and an annual holiday festival. Closer to home, Hilltop Lake Park has a walking path around the lake, and next door is the Richmond Parkway YMCA.

Tara Hills has a residential feel, but there are plenty of shopping and dining options close by. There's a Target at Pinole Vista Crossing and a Walmart in neighboring Richmond. Trader Joe's and Sprouts Farmers Market are just a short drive away. The community is partially bordered by I-80, which connects residents to Oakland, about 17 miles and 40 minutes away, and San Francisco, about 23 miles and an hour away. For those who prefer to avoid Bay Area traffic, the BART commuter rail station in Richmond is about 8 miles away. “So whether you want to drive or take public transportation, you have access to the major employment hubs in the Bay Area, and that’s another factor in what makes the area attractive,” say Adam Dobrinich of eXp Realty, who lives in Pinole.
Buses run regularly along San Pablo Avenue and Richmond Parkway, providing alternative transportation to local points of interest.
