A master-planned Tacoma-area suburb

Stretching across 5,000 acres south of Bonney Lake, Tehaleh is a master-planned city in the shadow of Mount Rainier. “It’s the most exceptional mountain view I’ve ever seen in a neighborhood,” says Jenifer Torres, a local Realtor with Best Choice Network. “It’s a mix of people from all over. Everyone knows each other here, even the original builders, who are active members of the community.” The small city, which has 16 parks and several miles of trails among native pines, attracts families looking for quiet and secluded living, about 22 miles outside Tacoma. Many residents work at Boeing’s aerospace facilities or Joint Base Lewis-McChord, while others commute to Tacoma’s hospitals or Seattle’s tech sector.

Contemporary Craftsman homes with mountain views

The median home price in Tehaleh is about $775,000, compared to Seattle’s $850,000 and Tacoma’s $480,000. The neighborhood offers 19 different one- to five-bedroom Contemporary Craftsman floor plans, typically priced between $600,000 and $900,000. Set close together along sidewalk-lined streets, these homes feature stone-and-shingle exteriors in earthy forest greens and slate grays, and most have views of evergreen forests or the peaks of Mount Rainier. "The area used to be just rural farmland, but it’s been growing steadily over the years,” Torres adds. In the center of Tehaleh, Verterra is a smaller, resort-style 55-plus community with single-story, two- to three-bedroom rambler-style homes in 15 different floor plans, ranging from $725,000 to $800,000. Verterra residents have exclusive access to a private clubhouse, a farm-to-table bistro and a fitness center.
