The Alta Ridge neighborhood of Thornton gives residents the freedom to be as much, or as little, a part of the action as they want to be – whether that means hitting up the excitement of Downtown Denver, hiking the nearby foothills or simply enjoying the comforts of the neighborhood. “It’s such a great spot for people and families that want to be close to Denver but don’t want to pay nearly as much or deal with the things that come with living in a big city,” says Charlie Belger, broker associate with JPAR Modern Real Estate and longtime resident of the area. “And for commuters, it’s easy to get wherever you need to be for work with both the highways right there.” Thornton, which is a city of 140,000 north of Denver, gives Alta Ridge residents more access and entertainment options closer to home all without without costing an arm and a leg.
Denver, Boulder within reach
Flanked by state Highway 93 on the west and I-25 to the east, residents have direct access to major employment centers. Denver sits 12 miles away, and drivers on I-25 can expect a 25–35 minute commute, depending on traffic. Highway 93 takes travelers up to Boulder, just over 20 miles away, with commute times similar to Denver's. South Thornton is adjacent to Alta Ridge and is home to the RTD light rail station and the HCA HealthONE Mountain Ridge hospital, which is two miles away. Denver International Airport is 30 miles away, while bus stops throughout Thornton provide transportation around the city.
Make a short drive to Denver or head to nearby South Thornton
There’s more to do in Denver than just go to work, especially along its famed South Broadway shopping and entertainment strip, but residents in Alta Ridge are just as content and capable to shop local. “Obviously, the proximity to Denver is a part of the appeal, but you don’t have to fight the traffic to find things to do or places to go for food,” says Belger. “You’re right next to South Thornton, and that has a lot to choose from on its own.” There's an all-day breakfast at nearby Bluebird Café and Pete’s Café is a classic diner serving up gyros since 1972. Eight miles outside the neighborhood, the Orchard Town Center features dozens of retail options – including anchor stores such as Macy’s, Marshall’s and Target. King Soopers is 3 miles away and is the go-to spot for groceries.
Catch a Rockies game at Coors Field or relax at the community clubhouse
Alta Ridge features its own pool and clubhouse for socializing and hosting birthday parties or barbecues all year round. Less than a mile from the neighborhood, Sky Park has a soccer field, open green space and a playground featuring a zipline and climbing nets. With a quick trip to Denver, residents can catch a Rockies game at Coors Field or spend the day exploring the Denver Zoo and Aquarium. The Elitch Gardens Theme Park caters to coaster enthusiasts and thrill seekers from April through October. Water World – the nation’s largest waterpark – is open from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
Manufactured homes along streets framed by trees
Alta Ridge housing consists of manufactured homes, which offer single-family living and modest lot sizes at much lower prices than the surrounding area—especially given how close Denver is. Mature trees frame neighborhood streets, and roads ending in cul-de-sacs often have children playing while parents watch from their lawns. “It’s a good spot for all sorts of situations,” says Belger. “Workers looking to save money can do so here, while those looking for a real neighborhood setting and a sense of community can find that too.” Prices typically range from $80,000 to $225,000, with those at the higher end featuring more recent renovations.

GreatSchools:
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
