Ottawa is anchored by a hospital and the University of Toledo
On college football game nights, the University of Toledo's Glass Bowl stadium fills with thousands of screaming fans, and their collective voice echoes throughout Ottawa's suburban streets. "Locals love to tailgate before the games," says Realtor Tara Adkins, who sells homes in the neighborhood with Whittington Realty. "Sometimes airplanes even fly over and there are fireworks." Aside from its proximity to the university, the neighborhood is defined by its early 20th-century suburban housing within walking distance of two major parks, A-rated public schools and ProMedica Toledo Hospital, the region's largest employer.
Tudor Revival and American Craftsman-style houses
The streets are lined with sidewalks, and yards are shaded by old-growth trees. Most of the houses were built from the 1910s through the '40s. Single-story American Craftsman and Foursquare-style houses are priced as low as $30,000, and two-story homes with wood-frame construction are priced as high as $215,000. Brick Colonial Revival-style houses are priced from $250,000 to $360,000, and Tudor Revival-style houses are priced from $160,000 to $420,000. The neighborhood's median price is in line with Toledo's. "It's a good area to get more bang for your buck, especially if you're looking for homes that are all different," says Realtor Suzanne Herron, who sells homes in the neighborhood with Keller Williams Citywide. Adkins says that students often rent in the neighborhood. Train tracks run past Ottawa, causing some noise.
