Craftsman bungalows, Colonial Revival and Prairie Styles have garages and are the most common designs in the neighborhood. Houses, some of which are vacant or need a bit of polish, are close together and sit on lots ranging from one-eighth to three-quarters of an acre. Danny Thomas Park, near the Maumee River, has facilities for baseball and basketball, as well as trails for running or walking. Swan Creek flows around the northern perimeter of Highland Park. This family hub has baseball diamonds, basketball and tennis courts, picnic areas, and walking paths. The park is one of the only two Toledo parks with facilities for sledding and tobogganing. A new bike trail is being constructed alongside the Anthony Wayne trail. It will go from the Maumee city limit to Glendale Avenue, connecting to the existing Chessie Circle Trail near Detroit Avenue. To the south, residents can spend the day at the Toledo Zoo, which houses 10,000 individual animals from all over the world. The Pier 75 Marina offers stunning views of the Maumee River and Lake Erie. From here, visitors can take a boat tour, go fishing or simply relax and enjoy the scenery.District encourages students to make a difference
The Toledo City School District serves the Southside neighborhood. Students can walk or bike to Arlington Elementary School, serving grades Kindergarten through eighth. The school has a C-minus grade on Niche. There are several local eateries in the neighborhood to choose from. Residents can head to San Marcos for its authentic Mexican cuisine or stop by its attached grocery store for ingredients to craft an at-home meal. El Tipico offers classic Mexican dishes in a cantina with a relaxed atmosphere and vibrant decor. For a quick bite or dessert, Netty's has been serving chili dogs and ice cream since 1978. Several businesses line the Anthony Wayne Trail, which cuts diagonally through the community, while popular chain restaurants line Broadway. For groceries and essentials, residents can either walk to Dollar Tree and Rite Aid or drive 3 miles to Walmart Supercenter.Road to health: ProMedica Toledo Hospital
Downtown Toledo is 9 miles away, and Interstate 75 allows access throughout the Toledo metropolitan area. The Anthony Wayne Trail extends north to downtown and south, parallel to the Maumee River, to Maumee and points beyond. The closest hospital is ProMedica Toledo Hospital, about 6.6 miles away. Residents can take Toledo Area Regional Transit Authority's (TARTA) No. 32 bus and transfer to the hospital in under an hour. TARTA has bus stops along neighborhood streets, including Western Avenue and Airport Highway.Arts and cultural experiences
