Brookwood
Higher-end homes that sell fast
The residential streets here are lined with homes that are “a little more higher-end,” Smith says. Most properties are 2,000 or more square feet and come in a variety of styles, from brick-veneer-and-Hardie-Plank French Country-styles with farmhouse accents, to the occasional sprawling stucco contemporary house. Most include homeowner’s association fees, and feature densely wooded yards set on quarter- to half-acre lots. It’s also common to see multicar garages, covered front porches and back decks. Depending on square footage and amenities, prices range from $200,000 to $625,000 with some homes reaching past $1,000,000. “Most of the houses are new, big and fairly up-to-date,” Smith says. “Homes are typically sold in about a 30-day.”
Private and public schools with A-ratings
Holland Hall is an Episcopal-based private school that lies along the neighborhood’s northern end. On Niche, it earns an A-plus and is ranked as the second-best private school in Oklahoma. Public-school students don’t have to leave the neighborhood, either, with Jenks East Elementary, Jenks East Intermediate and Jenks High sitting on the southwestern side, all with A or higher ratings on Niche.Caterpillar rolls and The Stumbling Monkey
A few blocks west is the neighborhood’s main concentration of restaurants. For sushi and other Asian fusion favorites, there’s local chain Yokozuna. Try the steamed buns – stuffed with sriracha chicken and pork belly – as an appetizer, or skip right to the entrée with a Caterpillar Roll, a mix of eel, cucumber, avocado, sesame seeds and eel sauce. Go north up the plaza and there’s Upper Crust, another area favorite specializing in wood-fired pizzas. For dinner and a show, The Stumbling Monkey has casual classics like cheeseburgers and weekly live music performances on the outdoor patio. Grocery shopping is also close-by with a Whole Foods between Yokozuna and Upper Crust, as well as a Walmart. Though Brookwood doesn’t have a shopping center of its own, Tulsa Hills, one of the area’s biggest with almost 75 stores like Marshalls and Best Buy, is just six miles west.
A park with something for everyone (dogs included)
Hunter Park caters to all ages and interests, with a small wooden playset for toddlers and a neon-orange climbing structure donning mustard-yellow accents for older children. It’s large enough to house four concrete basketball courts and a disc golf course. The gravel path winds around the park’s namesake lake and the splash pad is a popular respite during the hot summer afternoons. The on-site dog park, Biscuit Acres, has separate fenced-in play areas for small and large dogs.
Getting around the airport and downtown
Downtown Tulsa is just under 12 miles away via US 64. Depending on traffic, the trip can take around 23 minutes. It takes the same amount of time to get to Tulsa International Airport. On the edge of the neighborhood, there’s the Creek Turnpike Toll Road that leads drivers to Interstate 75.
