Great schools and a countryside atmosphere in Upper Saint Clair
Along with its top-notch schools, Upper Saint Clair Township has a rural vibe within minutes of city transit, major shopping centers and community resources. “Even though you’re so close to downtown Pittsburgh, the township has a quiet, countryside feel,” says Jodi Lesniakowski, an associate broker with Berkshire Hathaway Home Services and an experienced agent in the area. “Old-growth trees and midcentury homes give the community an established feel, while a lack of through traffic makes the streets ideal for biking and going on walks with the family.”
A well known fixture of Upper Saint Clair is the 1830 Log House.

Established homes with a diverse selection of price points
Most area homes were built between the 1940s and ’90s. “When the houses here were built, they were mostly purchased by Pittsburgh’s affluent class,” Lesniakowski says. “Now the market is more established, but you still have well-built homes with spacious lots and over 2,000 square feet.” Streets are lined with Colonial Revivals, split-levels, ranch-style homes and modern traditionals, most sitting on quarter or half-acre lots. Fixer-uppers and modest homes with around 1,500 square feet or less range from $180,000 to $350,000, while larger builds with modern interiors can go for $340,000 to $750,000. Expansive, estate-style homes with properties over half an acre range from $770,000 to $2.2 million.

Top-notch public schools and library programs
"A lot of families are attracted to the area for its school district, and most neighbors know one another, with neighborhood kids going to school together," Lesniakowski says. “The Upper Saint Clair Township School District is consistently listed in the top 5 school districts in Pennsylvania.” Each public school in the district earns an A-plus grade from Niche. The township is served by Baker, Eisenhower and Streams elementary schools. Fifth and sixth graders can attend Boyce Middle School, while Fort Couch Middle School serves seventh and eighth-grade students. Students of Upper St. Clair High School can earn college credit through Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate courses and dual enrollment classes offered through the Community College of Allegheny County. The Upper St. Clair Library hosts a variety of community programs, including outdoor story times, movie showings, seasonal craft workshops and a monthly junk journaling club.

Nearby shopping centers and local restaurants
While Upper Saint Clair Township is largely residential, there are numerous thriving urban centers within a few miles. The South Hills Village mall has over 100 businesses, from major department stores to boutiques and chain eateries. “Due to the layout of Pittsburgh, you have a lot of mini commercial districts throughout the city,” says Lesniakowski. “The city’s downtown district is small compared to the population, and a lot of the neighborhoods surrounding downtown have their own main street centers. Nearby, you have Bridgeville and Castle Shannon.” The Porch serves brunch fare, burgers and seafood along with specialty cocktails and wine. For authentic Italian cuisine, Cucina Bella offers wood-fired pizza, pasta and desserts like tiramisu and limoncello. For groceries, Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s and Giant Eagle Supermarket are nearby.

Easy access to public transit and Interstate 79
When it comes to commuting, Upper Saint Clair Township offers easy access to multiple public transit options. “The end of the Pittsburgh Light Rail is located in the community in South Hills Village and provides direct transit to downtown,” says Lesniakowski. Interstate 79 lies just west of the community and can take drivers around 65 miles south to Morgantown, West Virginia, or 135 miles north to Erie. Pittsburgh International Airport is about 20 miles away.
