All in a day’s commute: Vallejo Ferry and Highway 37
Vallejo is a transportation and commuter hub for the North Bay region. “In 2020, Vallejo was known as the last affordable city in the Bay area,” says Rachel Mau, third-generation Realtor who specializes in the Vallejo and Benicia markets. “It was considered the number two hottest market during COVID because of the affordability. To live in Solano County is to pay a fraction of the price of San Francisco for those who work remotely, or just go in once a week.” The nearby Vallejo Ferry Terminal offers daily service to San Francisco and a seasonal route to Oracle Park for Giants’ games. “For commuters, the ferry is a huge draw – you can get to downtown San Francisco in under an hour with the turbo ferry,” Mau says.Alternatively, Highway 37 also connects Vallejo Heights to the surrounding areas; this road encircles the western half of San Pablo Bay. Highway 37 connects to Interstate 80, which extends south to San Fransisco. Drivers can head 36 miles down I-80 to get to San Francisco Bay Oakland International Airport. County buses stop throughout the neighborhood, transporting passengers to Six Flags Discovery Kingdom and downtown Vallejo. Vallejo Kaiser Permanente Hospital is less than 2 miles away.
