Coastal homes and beach cottages
Veromar is a highly desirable place on the water, and both architectural styles and landscaping are incredibly varied. There are beach cottages tucked away on large lawns framed by Spanish moss, modern coastal homes that sit tall on oceanfront property and sprawling ranch homes paces away from the river. "Everyone wants that Vero Beach zip code," says Eric Attio, a Realtor with Keller Williams Realty of VB. He's lived and sold homes in Vero Beach for 20 years. "People who want to live on the water are willing to pay the high prices. But you know, compared to other beach cities, it's affordable. We have people coming in from Orlando and Miami all the time." In Veromar, condos sell between $350,000 and $450,000, while homes not on the waterfront sell between $900,000 and $1.5 million. The closer to the ocean, the higher the prices, with properties selling between $2 million and $10 million.River and beachside activities in Veromar
With the Indian River bordering the west side and the shores of the Atlantic bordering the east, Veromar attracts homebuyers who want to live a complete waterside lifestyle. The Vero Beach City Marina and Vero Beach Yacht Club operate in the neighborhood, with boats and kayaks constantly pulling up to launches and docks. The Vero Beach Dog Park is also right by the river, one of the largest green spaces for people in the city to take their dogs to play around. Veromar's east border is simply uninterrupted miles of shoreline, and residents are close to the activity of the Vero Beach Boardwalk and Jaycee Park, which has paved walking trails, sand volleyball courts and large grassy picnic areas. One of the most common sights in Veromar is seeing people out for a swim, heading to fish or biking along Ocean Drive.Schooling with Indian River
Veromar falls under the Indian River County School District, which receives an A-minus grade from Niche as a district. Many local kids will be sent to Beachland Elementary for kindergarten through fifth grade. The school is graded with a B-plus and makes it into the top 10 of the best elementary schools in the county. Students can move on to Gifford Middle, graded with a B, before heading to A-minus-rated Vero Beach High. The high school offers dual enrollment with Indian River State College so students can take college-level classes at the college, online, or during the summer.
Year-round entertainment with the Vero Beach community
Vero Beach has several well-attended events, one of the biggest being the Under the Oaks Art Show in March, where over 80,000 guests come to see the artisan vendors' creative works. In February, great eats, fine reds and live performances come together at the Vero Beach Food, Wine and Music Festival, with all proceeds going to local charities. "Everyone loves Riverside Theatre," Small says. "They put on amazing musical shows and theater events."
Crossing the Barber Bridge to the mainland
Highway A1A is the main route along the coastline for the beachside neighborhoods, while Route 1 and Interstate 95 are the major mainland thoroughfares. To get onto the mainland, residents cross the Intracoastal Waterway via the Merrill Barber Bridge. To catch flights, Orlando Melbourne International Airport is 37 miles north. For health needs and emergencies, the Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital – the largest medical center in Vero Beach – is just 3 miles away.Heading to 21st Street and Ocean Drive for errands and eats
With a mile drive onto the mainland, residents can head to 21st Street, known as 'Miracle Mile' for its massive shopping options. There are big-name errand stops such as Publix, Fresh Market and Ulta, as well as necessities such as banking locations and Urgent Care. Along Ocean Drive are several local eateries that stay bustling year-round. "Ocean Grill is the oldest restaurant in Vero, and it goes all out for decorating for Halloween and Christmas. Sailfish Brewing is great for drinks, too," says Kim Small, a Realtor with Keller Williams Vero Beach who's been selling homes for over a decade.
