Nearby Ice Age Trail gives Glacier Ridge its name
Glacier Ridge sits at the far southwest corner of Madison, its western border flush against the scenic Junction Area of Wisconsin’s famous Ice Age Trail. The neighborhood takes its name from the glaciers that covered much of Wisconsin thousands of years ago, leaving behind a unique moraine landscape. Despite the rugged name and proximity to nature, Glacier Ridge features easy access to both downtown Madison and nearby Verona, with plenty of shopping, dining and recreational options. The neighborhood consists of single-family homes and townhomes surrounded by natural areas, plus public schools from the Madison Metropolitan School District, rated a B-plus on Niche.

Newer builds, townhomes and echoes of a Wisconsin legend
Glacier Ridge homes include a variety of architectural styles. Split-level and New Traditional homes are common designs, while Prairie School-style homes pay tribute to architectural legend Frank Lloyd Wright, whose style was informed by Wisconsin’s landscape and the glaciers that helped shape it. “They are generally newer builds,” says Keith Schulz, managing broker with Great Rock Realty, with many homes built in the 2000s. Large homes can range from $500,000 to $725,000, while smaller homes and townhomes usually cost between $325,000 and $400,000. Standalone homes feature attached garages, as do some townhomes, useful for warming up the car during Wisconsin’s winters. Sidewalks and sizable lawns line the streets.
Single family homes with garages are common in Glacier Ridge.

Moraine hikes, an 8-acre dog park and drone flights
Country Grove Park borders Glacier Ridge’s eastern edge and has soccer fields, basketball courts and a playground. To the west is one of Madison’s frequently-used hiking areas, with trails for walking and biking at Ice Age Ridge Park and Glacier Crossing Park. Both connect to the Ice Age Junction Natural Resource Area, home to over a mile of the Ice Age National Scenic Trail. Administered by the National Park Service, the Ice Age Trail stretches across Wisconsin for 1,200 miles as it follows the terminal moraines of ancient glaciers. Badger Prairie Dog Park sits just south of the neighborhood. “It’s the biggest and most convenient dog park in the area because it’s so close to the west side,” says Keith Sayles, a longtime Madison resident and attorney with Community Justice Inc. “And it’s huge. Just acres and acres of space.” In another part of Badger Prairie is Dane County’s only aeromodeling park, where people can fly drones and model planes— with a permit, of course.
Badger Prairie Park is loved for its 11 acre dog park.

For sports enthusiasts, Verona’s Draft House Bar & Restaurant has pints, food and plenty of TVs for catching the game. They also offer a shuttle service to University of Wisconsin Badger football games in downtown Madison. For home goods and outdoor gear, Blain’s Farm & Fleet is a Wisconsin staple.
