Rossmoor
Resident experience is second to none
The community is home to five clubhouses, 27 holes of golf, eight tennis courts, three pools, including one enclosed facility, and a plethora of other amenities. But the community has not stopped improving the resident experience. “There’s a state-of-the-art gym that underwent a renovation that was probably in the $10 million range, and they’re getting ready to build a pickleball center,” says Rogers. Even with regular improvements, Rossmoor still goes above and beyond in the services and perks it provides. The Rossmoor News, which focuses on the events, activities and news within the community and surrounding areas, is published weekly and is delivered to every home. Residents are encouraged to submit articles, columns, photos and letters to the editor. “The newspaper has always been actively engaged with the community,” says Rogers. “It’s basically the Gospel of what’s going on in Rossmoor.” Pertinent information also can be found online at rossmoornews.com.Rossmoor Event Center, curbside bus service among the special amenities
A highlight of the community’s many attractions is the Rossmoor Event Center, a 500-plus-seat dining and entertainment venue that hosts dinner dances, live musical performances and plays. Residents also have access to first-class dining at Creekside Bar & Grill. Traditional retail and dining options are easily accessible along Tice Valley Boulevard. Residents can stock up at Safeway and fill up at El Jardin Taqueria, a family owned restaurant that serves up highly rated authentic Mexican food. Residents also can take advantage of the proximity to Tice Valley Park, which offers recreational activities for residents of all ages and plenty of room to roam amid the picturesque landscape. “While it’s a very nice senior community, you also have access to everything else outside of it,” says Rogers. “It’s very unique in that way.” For those who want or need a ride, Rossmoor offers its own form of public transportation. Dial-A-Bus operates on weekdays, weekends and holidays. It includes destinations throughout the community, the Rossmoor Shopping Center and several medical facilities in and around the community. Pickups are made curbside. “Rossmoor is basically a city unto itself,” says Rogers. “And the best part is that you can be as active as you want to be. Even if you want to keep to yourself, they are just happy to have you. It’s just one of those welcoming places. It’s a great place to live.”A wide variety of condominiums highlights the mostly multi-family housing options
Opened in 1964, Rossmoor is one of the longest-running age-restricted communities in the country. Having been built out between 1963 and 2002, it features a vast array of condominiums and includes a small collection of single-family homes. Prices range from the low $300,000s for a 1-bedroom condo to more than $2.5 million for the most expensive homes. “Rossmoor’s 6,800 residences are spread out over 1,8000 acres. You can’t do this anywhere anymore,” says Rogers. “That much land is too expensive today, especially in California. You can build 6,800 residences, but they’d be right on top of one another.” The community is made up of 23 separate homeowners’ associations called mutuals, each with its own board of directors. HOA fees are generally $800 to $1,000 per month for multi-family housing and in the $600-$700 range for single-family homes. The Waterford is a co-op retirement home where residents receive daily living services on-site.Several nearby roadways offer convenient travel
While Rossmoor is relatively secluded, its residents enjoy the convenience of nearby roadways that provide quick and easy access in and out of the community. Within Rossmoor, traditional public bus stops dot Tice Valley Boulevard. Olympic Boulevard on the community’s north side leads directly to Downtown Walnut Creek about 3 miles away. Interstate 680 and California Route 24 converge nearby and offer access throughout Contra Costa County and the surrounding Bay Area. I-680 can be taken directly to the nearby Walnut Creek BART station, and CA-24 is the main road leading into Oakland, whose international airport is about 25 miles away.Gated community is protected by 24-hour security
Featuring 24-hour security at its entrance gate, the community boasts a 1-out-of-10 crime rating, the safest possible score.
