Acres of open space define the northeastern area just over the border of Walnut Heights. A multitude of trails wind their way through the area; Fossil Hill trail begins within Walnut Heights and connects to the Briones-Mount Diablo Trail. Mount Diablo’s peak is 17 miles away, and accessible via car or on foot. The vista provides sweeping views of Contra Costa County and even the San Francisco Bay on a clear day.

Downtown Walnut Creek, or the area roughly between Trinity Avenue, South Broadway and Interstate 680, is the city’s shopping and dining center.
