Artistic eateries and relaxed, happy hour locations
Edgewood is home to a few distinct, artistic eateries and establishments. Busboys and Poets combines a restaurant, bar and bookstore, creating a gathering place for the Edgewood's many artists, writers and activists. For a relaxed night out, locals head to the Dew Drop Inn to enjoy this dive-bar-esque establishment that serves pub eats and happy hour specials seven days a week. Patrons dance on the top floor of this establishment and can enjoy occasional special events, including trivia and art markets. Nearby and just a short minute walk from the Rhode Island Avenue Metro Station, the City State Brewing Co. offers a relaxed and welcoming taproom environment and a lineup of food trucks that rotate daily. Locals come to listen to live music, laugh during comedy shows or test their knowledge at trivia nights while sipping on beer brewed and packaged in Edgewood. Locals can head to nearby shopping centers like Road Island Place to grab groceries at stores like Giant Food. The Brooklyn Art Walk, American Poetry Museum and Alamo Drafthouse Cinema
Local art lovers gravitate to the Brookland Arts Walk. Named after Edgewood's neighbor to the east, 716 Monroe St. NE houses 27 independent studios filled with the community's brightest candlemakers, sculptors, painters and fine artists. The Brookland Arts Walk hosts special events and festivals, including an Earth Day celebration and small markets in the past. It's also the location of the year-round FRESHFARM Monroe Street Market, where locals can peruse goods from local farms and participate in special events featuring yoga and live music. Nearby, writers head to the American Poetry Museum to take part in their writing workshops, poetry readings and open mic nights, all free and open to the public. Those who want to catch the newest release head to the neighborhood's Alamo Drafthouse Cinema to enjoy seat-side bites and an establishment complete with a spy-themed lounge. A vibrant art scene in the Northeast section of Washington D.C.Townhomes galore
Townhomes line the streets in Edgewood. Classic early 20th-century red-brick Colonials and similarly aged Federals, some painted muted pastel colors are common here. Many of these older constructions have been recently renovated, and they often feature staircases leading to small, covered porches. Newly built or ready-to-be-built townhomes are also popular here and often reflect similar architectural styles to older properties. Townhomes here are pushed back slightly from the sidewalk and feature small, often fenced-in yards. Edgewood is also home to apartment buildings and many condos, some older with brick architecture and some new and modern, and detached single-family properties sit at the neighborhood's edges. Properties here range from around $300,000 for a condo to around $1 million for a 4-bedroom newly renovated or new construction. Homes here don't often have garages, so many park on the streets. While parking can sometimes be difficult to find, Carl Allen, a Realtor with Murrell Inc. who has sold properties in the area, says, "It's a lot better than in Georgetown and Capitol Hill." Most people in Edgewood rent their homes or apartments. The Edgewood Recreation Center and nearby green spaces
Locals here enjoy amenities around the Edgewood Recreation Center, which features a fitness facility and rooftop community garden. Children enjoy the playground; during the warmer months, they cool off at the spray park. Nearby, the Edgewood Triangle Park offers visitors a grassy, shaded area perfect for picnics and spending the day reading outside. People with furry friends head to the Bryant Street Dog Park to play fetch and let their pets run around. The Metropolitan Branch Trail goes through the eastern border of the neighborhood, making it a favorite among bikers. Edgewood is also just around 2.3 miles from the United States National Arboretum for those wanting to walk or bike around the expansive grounds that feature a diverse selection of plants. Those wanting to practice their aim can head to the Old Soldiers' Home Golf Course, which is around 2 miles away.Public Charter Schools, Trinity Washington University and the nearby Howard University

For kindergarten through eighth grade, they can attend the Inspired Teaching Demonstration Public Charter School, which received an A rating from Niche and is ranked as the 2nd-best public elementary school in the district of Columbia. The school emphasizes inquiry-based and social-emotional-centric learning approaches. For high school, students can enroll in the B-plus-rated Washington Leadership Academy, which features an internship program and frequently hosts community partners to provide career panels. Students have to apply to both of these charter schools. To further their education, locals here can pick from the nearby Howard University, a historically Black university ranked as the 115-best national university and the neighborhood's Trinity Washington University, which was tied as the 59th best liberal arts college, according to the U.S. News & World Report.
