Sprawling forests and rural community

To the west of Concord and Manchester, Weare is every outdoor adventurist’s dream with its forested landscape and miles of hiking trails around beautiful lakes. “It’s a country rural area, but it’s not too far from the bigger cities. I think the outdoor activities in the area are a big draw,” says Weare Deputy Town Clerk Pamela Moul. With dozens of state parks and camping grounds in the neighborhood, there are plenty of activities for residents to do.

Countryside homes and lakefront properties

Homes in Weare come in a variety of styles and usually have a lot of land. “There are pockets of town where homes are close together, and then you have areas where it’s super spread out and you have to travel a mile to get to another house,” Moul says. Large, box-shaped Colonial homes that are 2,000 to 3,000 square feet will cost anywhere between $450,000 and $700,000, along with brightly colored modern Craftsman homes. For something smaller, homebuyers can look at the ranch-style houses that go for $100,000 to $400,000. With all the lakes in the area, it’s easy to find a waterfront home with a view. Many properties on the water are either rustic log cabins that cost $200,000 to $375,000, or cottage-inspired homes lined with picture windows.

Woodland trails, beaches and athletics

Weare covers over 60 square miles of land, encompassing many different state parks, forests and other natural landscapes. “We have several mountains that have hiking trails, plus a town beach on Lake Horace,” Moul says. Chase Park is where this lakeside beach is, and in addition to the public boat launch, the park has a playground for little ones. On the other side of the neighborhood, Clough State Park has a bit of everything for its visitors. Its sandy beach along Everett Lake offers swimming and boating too. Go for a hike along the trails or check out the Everett Lake Dam. Cold Springs Camp Resort has 12 rustic cabins and numerous tent and RV campsites for visitors to rent. There are four large pools, a shuffleboard setup and a rec hall for indoor games. Those who want more sports-oriented activities can find opportunities in Weare’s town center. Weare’s Parks and Recreation department manages public tennis and pickleball courts. In addition to them, the Weare Athletics Club provides several sports programs like baseball and soccer for kids in kindergarten through eighth grade.

Retail and dining on Route 114

Weare doesn’t have much in terms of retail, but there are a few commercial areas along New Hampshire Route 114. Right by Cold Springs Camp Resort, there’s a shopping center with local stores and restaurants. Stock up on food at Lanctots Grocery or Weare Market & Deli. Stark House Tavern is an American pub that serves traditional bar food with beer. Try a plate of their wings, voted Best Wings in 2022 by WMUR-TV’s Viewer’s Choice. Travel north along Route 114 for more shopping and dining options. Dimitri’s Pizza offers casual Italian dishes, while Zoomies Market is a regular convenience store. When residents need name-brand stores like Family Dollar or Shaw’s, they can head 12.8 miles west to Hillsboro. The neighboring town has a wider selection of local places along its Main Street, including Hanna’s Diner, Angelino’s Hot Dogs and more.

Attending Weare School District

Families living in the area can send their children to schools within the Weare School District. Center Woods School is an elementary school with a C grade on Niche and a United Arts program. Weare Middle School also has a C Niche grade but makes up for it with educational field trips, including a week-long excursion to Washington DC for its eighth graders. From there, students can attend John Stark Regional High School. Despite its C-plus Niche grade, the school helps its students thrive with over 20 clubs and activities and a great athletics program.

State routes across Weare

Since Weare is spread out, most residents rely on their own vehicles to get around. New Hampshire Route 114 cuts through the neighborhood and branches off into Route 77 and Route 149. Residents can easily access these main roads and travel to where they need to go. In an emergency, people will have to travel either 13.8 miles to get to Concord Hospital or 14.6 miles to Hillsborough County Hospital.
