Situated in the St. Louis metro’s northwestern outskirts, Wentzville is a city where quiet suburban living is abundant. This community of roughly 47,500 is full of modern subdivisions, packed with well-kept and new-construction homes on sidewalk-lined residential streets. The city is home to a sizable General Motors plant and will soon be a quick commute from a new beef processing plant. “It’s drawing a lot of people to the area because it’s huge, it brings a lot of jobs,” says Suzanne Matyiko, a Realtor with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Alliance Real Estate and a longtime St. Louis-area resident. Locals have nearby shopping, dining and outdoor recreation opportunities to peruse in their free time.

Modern homes abound in this city
While there are houses in town that date back to the early 20th century, concentrated mainly at the center of town, most options were built after the turn of the 21st century. Houses are relatively sizable, with floor plans that average just over 2,000 square feet. However, listings sell for an average of $402,584, about 27% less than the national average. Homes sell after an average of 45 days on the market, on par with the national average.

Automotive plant continues to attract investment
Wentzville has had a General Motors plant since 1983. Located on a 440-acre site, the plant has received $1.5 billion in investment in recent years to produce mid-size trucks. The investment included the addition of 200 jobs. The SSM Health St. Joseph Hospital-Wentzville, which recently doubled its emergency room to 14 beds, is another major employer in the area, Matyiko says. There’s an $800 million, 775,000-square-foot America's Heartland Packing beef harvesting plant on the way in nearby Wright City, too, just about 8 miles from Wentzville. The plant is scheduled to be completed in 2025 and is expected to bring some 1,300 jobs to the area. Workers here can also swing commutes to St. Louis, a roughly 41-mile straight shot on Interstate 64. The St. Louis region has seven Fortune 500 companies, including healthcare corporation Centene.

Several of the area’s community events are held at Rotary Park, including the St. Louis Renaissance Festival. “That’s a big deal,” Matyiko says. Festivalgoers can take part in everything from brunch to a pub crawl, or participate in games ranging from archery to knife throwing.
