A suburban lifestyle built around a significant station
Best known by outsiders for its central train station and the locally iconic 'Dinky' train, Princeton Junction is also home to a small but thriving suburban community within West Windsor Township, just 3 miles outside of downtown Princeton. The area's history dates to the 1860s, when the railroad's arrival resulted in the creation of a small agricultural community. The construction of new residential developments following World War II has helped to shape the current community's status as a residential suburb. "It's more spread out, and there is a wider range of prices and styles there than in Princeton," says Robin L. Wallack, A Realtor Broker at Berkshire Hathaway Home Services Fox & Roach. With the lowest possible crime score of 1 out of 10, the neighborhood is safe and excellent for growing families or those wanting extra peace and quiet while staying near major employers and conveniences.

Generous yards and homes with antique charm
Though new developments of uniform houses are increasing to house an influx of remote workers, the older homes remain unique in design. Towering revivals sit on at least an acre of land and usually boast façades reminiscent of colonial times, with symmetric brick exteriors and windows bordered by contrasting shutters. Ranging between $450,000 and $1.6 million, the houses sometimes feature inground pools and stone patios to fill their generous yards. Despite the high price point, homes sell quickly, usually lasting on the market for only three weeks. Townhouses around the neighborhood are priced from $450,000 to $800,000 for four-bed units with attached garages and clubhouse access.
Residents in West Windsor can expect large front lawns outside their houses.

Schools with the highest possible rating
Served by one of the top school districts in New Jersey, students of Princeton Junction have access to some of the best academic programs, teachers and college prep programs. "A lot of families move there specifically for the schooling options," says Wallack. Maurice Hawk Elementary is where some of the youngest students begin learning, followed by Community Middle School. Niche rated every school with the highest possible grade of an A-plus, including West Windsor-Plainsboro High School South. Raked as the best high school in Mercer Country, it's no wonder Princeton Junction's education is bringing in homebuyers.

Spending a day on the lake or under the shade of diverse trees
This neighborhood is home to some expansive stretches of nature open for exploration. The Ronald R. Rogers Arboretum houses a wealth of trees and a scenic pond alongside a 9/11 memorial, gazebos and benches. Mercer County Park is the most extensive athletic area, with nine baseball diamonds, ample tennis and basketball courts, soccer fields and a cricket pitch. The park also backs up to Mercer Lake and the attached boathouse and boat launch, where residents take out their kayaks and local schools launch their shells for regattas.

Bordered by a main road of shopping
National grocery stores, big box retail and home improvement stores sit along Brunswick Pike, which borders the neighborhood in the north. Chain restaurants and fast-food joints are aplenty, but some locally-owned restaurants stand out in the downtown area of Princeton Junction. Aljons Pizza & Restaurant, serving pizzas and other Italian dishes for over 45 years, is a local favorite for Friday night takeout and party catering. Those looking for an authentic Asian dining experience can check out Mizu Japanese Cuisine. The no-frills restaurant thrives in its simplicity and lets the food shine, especially when prepared right in front of the customer at the bar.

Home to the iconic “Dinky” Train
The Princeton Branch of New Jersey Transit is famed for its "Dinky" train, serving the Princeton area and its students since 1865. The 5-minute ride saves learners and faculty from downtown traffic. Princeton Junction Station has trains that reach NYC and Philadelphia within an hour and a half. Bus stops run in the northern end of the area, along Brunswick Pike, and Trenton-Mercer Airport is under 30 minutes away. The Medical Center of Princeton is in the middle of the neighborhood.
