The Villages, Central Florida's premier 55-plus master-planned community, is continually growing, primarily south, past Route 466A. While the southern neighborhoods boast new homes and rec centers, they can also feel a bit transient, with renters or snowbirds making up a large part of the population. Older neighborhoods north of Route 466A, like The Village of Tamarind Grove, have more primary residents. “People might move around a little bit, but most people who come here stay here," says longtime resident Deb Delvaux. Another longtime Tamarind Grove resident, Lorelei Hoff, echoes this sentiment. "You can say we’re frogs; we’re here until we croak.” Along with an active neighborhood social club, the community is close to popular amenities like the Tarpon Boil Executive Golf Course and Brownwood Paddock town square.

Courtyard Villas or Cottage are common
Nearly all the homes in Tamarind Grove are Courtyard Villas or Cottage style, with various floorplans. They feature two or three bedrooms and are priced from the mid $300,000s to the mid $500,000s, with more expensive homes located along the nearby Tarpon Boil Executive Golf Course or sitting on larger lots around the neighborhood’s many cul-de-sacs. A big perk for buyers: Because the houses were built around 2011, many homes’ bonds—fees placed on new construction in The Villages ranging from $20,000 to $100,000, depending on the price of the home—have been paid off. Garages are standard, with additional room for golf carts, the primary mode of transportation for most residents. The quiet streets offer plenty of room for bike rides and evening dog walks.

Close to Tarpon Boil and Southern Star golf courses
All Villagers pay an annual activities fee to take advantage of every golf course and recreation center in the community. Tamarind Grove’s closest golf courses are Tarpon Boil Executive Golf Course and Southern Star Executive Golf Course, both of which offer nine holes. Sterling Heights Pool & Recreation Center is also nearby, offering pickleball and tennis courts, bocce ball courts and a family pool, which means Villagers and their guests as young as a year and a half old can visit. Sterling Heights also offers indoor activities like Bunco, Mahjong and dance classes, and for even more activities, the nearby SeaBreeze Recreation Center has Zumba, volleyball, pickleball and tennis. "It's like day camp for adults; there's so much to do,” says Jamie Noll, a Realtor with Realty Executives in The Villages and current Villages resident. “If you’re lonely here, that’s on you,” she adds with a laugh.

Brownwood Paddock town square is close by for dinner and dancing
One of The Villages’ popular town squares, Brownwood Paddock is about 5 miles from Tamarind Grove and is a popular destination for shopping, dining and entertainment. This walkable outdoor mall features clothing and home goods shops, plus casual sit-down restaurants serving a variety of cuisines. They include Fiesta Grande, which serves traditional Mexican dishes, and Bluefin Grill & Bar for seafood. Evenings, live music and dancing take over the square, as long as it’s not raining. Publix and Aldi are a few miles away along Route 466A, where the closest medical center, HCA Florida Tailwinds Village Emergency, is located.

The Lakeside Grovers keep residents busy with neighborhood events
While residents can participate in the many events throughout The Villages, The Lakeside Grovers, the neighborhood social club, offers regular events close to home. The group hosts monthly casual dinners, including live entertainment or fun activities like golf cart scavenger hunts. They also host a formal dinner and dance every December, attracting almost 200 people. Another popular December event is the Holiday Art Walk, started by Hoff in 2016 as a way for neighborhood artisans to connect and sell their handmade items.
Florida's Turnpike is accessible from nearby Routes 301 and 44
Residents usually opt to get around The Villages in their golf carts. For trips outside “the bubble”—Villagers’ playful name for the community—Florida’s Turnpike is the most traveled highway, which can be picked up from both Routes 301 and 44, just outside the neighborhood. Florida’s Turnpike travels throughout Central Florida, including Orlando, which is about 55 miles away.
Hwy 44 is one of the main roadways in the Village of Tamarind Grove.
