Celebrated schools and agricultural roots in Williamsburg
Williamsburg is a farming community of about 3,300 residents that offers top-notch schools, a variety of shopping and dining options and easy access to Interstate 80. It’s especially known for the Williamsburg Community School District, which ranks among the best in the state and continues to grow with new facilities and programs. The historic town square is lined with local restaurants, but residents are only 20 minutes from the shopping hub of Coralville and roughly 30 minutes from employment, higher education and entertainment in Iowa City. Major employers include Holden Foundation Seeds, Williamsburg Manufacturing, and Kinze Manufacturing, which also operates a museum and tour-friendly Innovation Center that celebrates the area’s rich agricultural history. The community has a CAP Index Crime score of 2 out of 10, which is lower than the national score of 4 out of 10.

Williamsburg’s school district is one of the best in Iowa
Iowa offers open enrollment to all students, but many attend the decorated Williamsburg Community School District. Niche ranked it one of the top 10 school districts in Iowa and the best district in the Cedar Rapids area in 2025, and Niche gives it an overall A grade. The district is in the process of a phased construction project to add more space in anticipation of growing enrollment numbers. Among other improvements, the project will add classroom space to the combined junior and senior high school and a new fifth and sixth grade wing at the elementary school. There’s private education in Williamsburg, too. Lutheran Interparish School is a private pre-kindergarten through eighth grade institution that is currently unrated by Niche. A branch of Kirkwood Community College also serves the community.
