Williamston has a history of attracting visitors

Before automobiles were on the scene, Williamston was a stopover for people going to Detroit from Lansing. Fast forward to today, and it’s Williamston that has become the destination. Its rural beauty – the scenic Red Cedar River winds through the city's heart – is complemented by a downtown area packed with quality restaurants, unique shops and must-do activities. Young families are drawn by the area’s well-regarded public schools. Working professionals, including Michigan State University staff members and state employees, appreciate the quick commute to Lansing. A growing agrotourism scene attracts visitors from all over the state.

Groovy Donuts and Niko's Taverna serve guests

Downtown Williamston is home to an array of charming eateries and retail stores. A fresh, handcrafted donut and locally roasted coffee from Groovy Donuts is a great way to start the day. Niko’s Taverna is a come-as-you-are restaurant serving classic Greek dishes and American fare with a twist. The upstairs event room at Williamston Pub & Grill is always hopping, while salmon sliders, burgers, and hotdogs flow from the kitchen to the dining room downstairs. Catching a live show at the Williamston Theatre is a favorite post-dinner activity. Keller’s Plaza is a historic building with nearly 20 specialty shops and businesses. The Commons at Williamston, a century-old school building turned shopping mall, hosts boutiques that sell everything from handmade soaps to antique furniture. D&W Fresh Market and PS Food Mart are nearby for convenient grocery shopping.

Crowds gather for the Red Cedar Jubilee

Nothing personifies Williamston's small-town feel and close-knit vibe better than the annual Red Cedar Jubilee. Held in June, this week-long celebration has featured everything from blue grass concerts and rodeos to carnival rides and wrestling matches. Residents ring in the holidays each December with a light parade downtown.

Space for growth and existing Cape Cods

Folks put down roots in Williamston, so homes rarely go on the market. A ready supply of residential lots is available for those interested in building new. For the existing housing stock, Cape Cods and ranch-style homes are prevalent downtown, while large properties with contemporary designs are found farther south. A Colonial home with four bedrooms, four bathrooms, an attached garage, and 3,000 square feet of living space costs $450,000. A 1,000-square-foot vinyl-sided home with three bedrooms and one bathroom sells for about $170,000.
