About Willowick, OH

About Willowick, OH

Easygoing Cleveland suburb

Set on Lake Erie, Willowick is an easygoing suburb with a casual character. Residents can enjoy a picnic while watching the sun set over the lake or gather with friends to catch up at a local restaurant. “It’s a very nice town, and it has a little bit of everything. It’s big enough that you have choices of where to eat and shop, and we have smaller independent stores too,” says Gale Lippucci, Library Associate at Willowick Public Library and Willowick native. “Willowick is an affordable place to live, shop, eat and have fun.”

Modest ranches, split levels and cottages

Roads in Willowick neighborhoods are well-worn and flat with narrow sidewalks. Lawns have minimal landscaping, and homes have few adornments. Houses have short driveways and often do not have garages. Ranch, split level and cottage style homes with small windows are common. A three-bedroom house built in the 1950s typically costs between $175,000 and $215,000. In comparison, newer three-bedrooms built in the 2010s or later go for somewhere in the low $300,000s.

Locals hang out at Lakefront Lodge Park

Lakefront Lodge Park “is where people just hang out,” Lippucci says. Here, locals can pack a picnic and watch the sunset over Lake Erie. The park also hosts a summer concert series where residents can listen to music while enjoying the view. Dudley Park and Manry Park both offer family-friendly amenities. Manry Park has a public outdoor pool, butterfly garden, bocce ball pit and indoor basketball courts. Dudley Park is a popular summer cool-off spot, with a splash pad and public outdoor pool featuring a water slide. The park also has baseball fields and a playground.

Popular events include the St. Mary Magdalene Festival

Parishioners and locals swarm to the St. Mary Magdalene Festival each June for food, raffles and music. The festival, which has been operating for over 30 years, brings the community together and is the church’s largest fundraiser. In August, locals can check out the Willowick Car Show in Dudley Park. This classic car show held its 7th annual event in 2023, and Lippucci says “It’s grown over the years.”

Down-to-earth dining at Petie's Restaurant and Timber Kitchen & Social

Petie’s Restaurant is a go-to spot for American food. “They have a really good breakfast, plus sandwiches and burgers. It’s a down-to-earth place. Lots of people meet up with their family and friends there,” Lippucci says. Timber Kitchen & Social is another neighborhood mainstay: “It’s in one of the oldest buildings in Willowick, and they still have the original fireplace,” Lippucci says. The restaurant serves sushi and burgers. Pasha Turkish Kitchen is another popular eatery, serving kebabs, falafel and other Turkish cuisine. Be Smoothie Café offers smoothies, salads and wraps in a clean, casual setting. Locals can pick up groceries in the neighborhood at Aldi in the Northshore Mall shopping center or Giant Eagle in the Shoregate Town Center.

No beach access to Lake Erie

Lake Erie is the scenic backdrop of the neighborhood, but there is no beach access in Willowick. The shoreline drops off steeply into brush, making swimming in the area dangerous. Instead, residents prefer to fish or simply enjoy the lake views.
